The Bible is clear; anyone can pray and ask God to heal a sick person

It is not us who heals but “Christ in us” Who heals.

Supernatural acts of healing are recorded in the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Healing is part of Who God is. It is central to His character.

“He said, “I am the Lord your God. Listen carefully to My voice. Do what is right in My eyes. Pay attention to My commands. Obey all of My rules. If you do, I will not send on you any of the sicknesses I sent on the Egyptians. I am the Lord Who heals you.” ” (Exodus 15:26, NIrV)

"I am the Lord Who Heals you," the original Hebrew is "Yahweh Raphah."

Yahweh is God's personal name which was revealed to Moses on Mount Sinai, "I Am Who I Am."

Raphah literally means, physician, healer, the one who makes completely whole.

Isaiah 38 King Hezekiah pleads to God to be healed.

Hezekiah fell sick and the prophet came to him with a message from God that he was going to die. Hezekiah was a good king and had served the Lord faithfully.

He thought that God was being unfair.

“I said, “In the prime of my life must I go through the gates of death and be robbed of the rest of my years?” (Isaiah 38:10, NIV84)

The Lord heard his prayer and saw his weeping and had mercy on him and gave him another 15 years of life.

The Lord told Isaiah what treatment the king should be given.

Sometimes the Lord will heal someone who is sick and in pain instantly, sovereignly, without any human action other than prayer.

Sometimes the Lord will heal through the medical treatments.

This shows us that we should be open to whatever way the Lord may choose to heal us.

The Roman Centurion’s servant - word of command. (Matthew 8:5-13)

The woman who touched Jesus’ clothes and was healed - being close to Jesus. (Matthew 9:20)

Two blind men received their sight - Jesus touched their eyes. (Matthew 9:29)

A man born blind received his sight - Jesus made mud with saliva and told him to wash. (John 9:6-7)

We do not know why Jesus healed in different ways for different people.

All we can do and all we should do is pray for those who are sick.

Research into the way God heals has shown that on average about 30% of those who are prayed for receive healing immediately or supernaturally fast.

Other times the healing takes place more slowly.

Research has shown is that those who are prayed for heal more quickly and suffer fewer complications than those who are not prayed for.

Even those who are not healed still experience a strong sense of God's love and care for them when people pray for them.

We are living in the time between the “Cross of Jesus” and the “Age to come.”

Christ has been victorious over sin, disease and death but the victory is not complete.

We still live in a world filled with sin, disease and death but every now and then we experience some victories and some defeats.

The Bible tells us that in the age to come we will experience the fullness of God's power and restoration and healing.

“For He must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through His holy prophets.” (Acts 3:21, NLT)

“..........those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, . . . .” (Hebrews 6:4–5, NKJV)

At this time we experience only a taste of the full powers of the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes a sick person will be instantly healed.

Sometimes the healing will be slower.

Sometimes the person will not be healed.

All we must do is to be obedient and pray.

“Tell your sins to each other. And pray for each other so you may be healed. The prayer from the heart of a man right with God has much power..” (James 5:16, New Life Version)

How Do we pray for healing?

Remember the times when God showed His power and love. Praise & Testimony.

Focus on the greatness of God not the problem you are praying for.

Ask the Lord to heal and ask others to pray as well.

Our prayers should be simple, direct and specific. There are no “special” ways of praying. It is the Lord Who heals.

Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance: a word, picture, Bible-verse, feeling, etc.

How Do we pray for healing?

When appropriate lay your hands on the sick person or the affected part of the body. Ask first!

Touch is not essential but helpful. Long Biblical tradition of laying-on-of-hands to communicate the love and power of the the Holy Spirit.

Use the gift of tongues while you pray if you can.

Feedback. Ask the person how they feel. “Is anything happening?” Use their answer to guide your prayers.

What do you do if the person is not healed while you pray?

Don’t worry. It is not you who can heal. It is “Christ in you” Who can heal.

Sometimes the person may receive their healing hours or days later. Slowly.

Encourage the person to seek more prayer. Don’t give up.

The most important thing: That the person receives God’s Love and knows that the Lord loves them.

Being “not good enough” is never the reason a person is not healed.
