costumes.

potentially tightly focused
light.

talking to herself during the
scenes.
shapes and forms
• Shape onstage, particularly three-dimensional stage elements- from side, top, and behind.
• Small focus of light on the actor who’s talking.
• A little dim inside of the house, try to make a shadow of the sets .
Focus onstage
Visual Compositions
• During Act I, when everyone were out of the house except Nora. Nora was start talking to herself. I will use spot light, clearly showing the audiences that Nora was the only one who’s talking by that time.
• Act III, everyone attended on customs party. I will enlarge the lighting area, and make a bigger compositions.
Mood and style• Doll house is a play
with happiness family setting, with some dark moments.
• I will combine red and orange of light to present the Christmas atmosphere for the opening of Act I.
• Red color light when Nora mad and argue with her husband.
• Low intensity, low bright, dark colors when Nora describing when Raj offering the loan to her.
• In most scenes, the light will be naturally bright to provide the clear visibility.
• Modern Style
Time and Place• Conflict most happened
during afternoon and night,
example will be when Nora
go to Terry’s office during
the Christmas Eve, and the
costumes party.
• For afternoon I will combine
red and orange again,
showing the sunset.
• For night a little blue added
into the light for afternoon
to show the night time.
• I will use natural bright as the background color and add a little bit warm color to illustrate they are located indoor.
• 21 century, recent years
Rhythm of Visual Movement
• This is a slow action play, nothing move quick during the scenes.
• Overall, slow shift of light during the play, this will help the lighting goes smoother.
• Spot light will come up suddenly when I design for Nora talking to herself.
Central Image
• We designed for 3 sets change, but the living room will be the central set for our play
• Again, the light will be naturally bright and add a little bit warn color to provide the clear visibility and highlight the central image – Living Room.

DOLLHOUSE
Set of the play:
The sets of this play is almost the same for all 3 acts. The majority of the play has taken place in the living
room, some are in the kitchen. Since the kitchen is a open kitchen, it can be seen from living room.
Thus, the kitchen and the living room and dining place are all together.
DOLLHOUSE
Set of the play:
Now, it’s already know that the set for the play will be like a normal living room connected to a dining place and a open kitchen.
Therefore, the stage can be divided into three parts: Living room Dining place Kitchen
DOLLHOUSE
Before dividing:
• the three sides stage( left, back, right) need fake wall to pretend the stage is a flat.
• The stage looks like a box without the front and top side. • This is also related to the name of the play. The set of the
play looks like a dollhouse toy that little kids play.
DOLLHOUSE
How to divide?
How to divide the stage into three parts? the three sides stage( left, back, right) need fake wall to
pretend the stage is a flat. Although the stage need to be divided into three parts, the
majority of the stage will be designed as the living room of the flat.
And kitchen and dining area will be together and occupies a small portion of the stage.
DOLLHOUSE
Central image:Since the living room will be the most important
set. It needs to be portrait in the center of the stage.
The best way to show this is by placing a leather sofa and a chair sit in the middle of the stage.
Audience will immediately know this play is about families, or the characters in the play are in one family just by looking at the sets.
The audience will immediately know the locale.
DOLLHOUSE
Other objects in the living
roomOther objects that mentioned in the plays are build-in
bookshelf, a cloth hanger and Christmas tree and gifts. The book shelf can be placed next to the wall, on the
right side of the stage and more specifi cally, in between the two doors on the right wall. There will be photos and decorations placed on it
The hanger will placed on the left of the stage, next to the front door that is off the stage.
And the Christmas tree and gifts can be placed on the right corner on the back of the stage.
DOLLHOUSE
kitchen on the stage:
the kitchen can be placed on the left back corner of he stage.
In order for audience to understand it is a kitchen, only put the representative objects on stage.
DOLLHOUSE
kitchen on the stage :
Things mentioned in play that represent kitchen : A granite countertops with cherry cabinets. This doesn’t
have to be really large. It will be placed perpendicular to the back wall of the stage.
Refrigerator can also represent kitchen well. It can be placed next to the counter tops. Facing audience.
DOLLHOUSE
Doors on the stage:
There are many doors in this house. However, the space on stage limited. It can only show two, which are the study door and the back door.
These doors are very important. Actors used these doors as exits and entrances.
DOLLHOUSE
DoorsBack door will placed on the right wall. Audience. And the study door is very close to the back door. It
on the same side of the wall, but little in front. Audience may see the study door clearly, however,
they might not notice the back door because it not stand out.
DOLLHOUSE
Doors: The front door is also very important. However, according to the direction of the play, the
front door is off stage. Thus, the “imaginary” door can shown to the audience by marking the entryway which is on the left side of the stage at the very front.
DOLLHOUSE
Mood and style: The set of the play will created a happy atmosphere. The style of this play should be modern style,
because the period of the play is at 21 st century.
DOLLHOUSE
Central Image:Since the living room will be the most important
set, it needs to be portrait in the center of the stage.
Place a leather sofa and a chair sit in the middle of the stage.
Audience will immediately know the locale.
DOLLHOUSE
Background: The background of the stage is also important and
the black and white photograph that hang on the wall had really involved in the conversation.
Since the picture is so important, the picture needs to be obvious and make sure all audience are able to see the picture.
The picture needs to place on the back wall of the stage, facing to audience, thus there is no confusion.
DOLLHOUSE
Special notes for set: Photos on the bookshelf: photos of wedding and
children. Picture on the wall: black and white, about three by
five feet, of a very pregnant Nora and Terry hugging her.
The room is fashionably and tastefully decorated.
