and thought she was just for show and fun.

COSTUME DESIGN

Page 8: Dollhouse group 13

•The play takes place New Year’s Eve 2004, so the characters would be dressed in festive Christmas clothing.

• For the 80’s costume party on New Year’s Eve, Nora would be dressed in perhaps asa flashy character from a 80’s movie

• It is vital for all of the actors to be comfortable and free to move.•Christmas designs are important to further establish theme.

Page 9: Dollhouse group 13

•Nora is the main character, her outfits should stand out. Also when she flirts, that particular outfit should be attractive.•Her husband’s costumes should be bland and conservative like his personality.• Character’s personality should be represented through costumes.• Nora is oppressed and unappreciated, so she should have attention-grabbing outfits , especially in the last scene.

SET DESIGN

Stage

• It should be a small stage (Black Box stage)• It would be able to express the fully meaning of the play in a small environment. The stage as the picture is great for the play, very suitable with the story and the scenes.

Page 12: Dollhouse group 13

Decoration• Since the first scene, the play almost happens in the living room, kitchen and dinning room opening together.• The play time is on December, the Christmas and New Year week with the Christmas tree and the gifts.

Page 13: Dollhouse group 13

• The portrait of the very pregnant NORA and TERRY stands behind her is a main symbol and focus point of the story• The picture should be like this or the painting portrait.

• Overall, it must be a black and white portrait

Page 14: Dollhouse group 13

The final stage should be like the picture above with sofa, Christmas trees, book case, portrait…

Page 15: Dollhouse group 13

• The two doors, one is the entry door and one is always locked to Terry room. This locked door is another metaphor symbol on the stage. It is like a wall between Terry and her husband. It is always locked!

Page 16: Dollhouse group 13

The entry door of the house should be set up in font and on the right side of the stage. Another door which is always locked to Terry room should be set up on the very left side of the house. Two door should be surely easy to move.

There should be also some snow on the front side of the entry door

Page 17: Dollhouse group 13

• However, the play can be set up simple with non fancy decoration as above. It could be the simple tools as the wood box used as chair, the sofa, the moving door. •We can also use another things to set up on the floor to make it look better and a little bit different with the story. It would be a good point for audience to focus on the stage.

Page 18: Dollhouse group 13

• Through the act 1, all the scenes happened inside the room so we do not have to move anything outside. It should just be about the small things like laptop, cloths, pills, gifts. The actors can move it out and in during the play while they are acting. The stage would be remained as the room set up as above.

• On the act 2, after the break, the gifts under the tree should be opened. They should be just couple boxes left on the floor. The stage now should be changed a little bit. The piano, and the kitchen should be move outside. It means we have to change.

• The piano now should be brought on the stage. The wall which divide the living room and the kitchen now should be set up half of the stage. The doors should be remove.

Page 19: Dollhouse group 13

• On the act 3, the stage should be changed a little bit, it is going to become an entry way with the floor on the back.

After the scene of RAJ and KRISTINE left the house, the stage is now set up as before with the sofa, the book case,…

Page 20: Dollhouse group 13

• In the very last scene of the play when Nora is about to leave the house. There should be some snow flying and wind flowing on the stage to emphasize the cold outside of the house. Nora and Terry are standing outside. We can use some small piece of plastic or the fake snowing to create the snow flying.

LIGHT DESIGN

Page 22: Dollhouse group 13

Intensity• The intensity of light during this play is always going to be to its full potential. This is because of the main reason that all the scenes take place inside the Condo with lights on. •We will use the stage decoration to make the audience know when it is day light and night time during specific scene by using dark or daylight windows on the background.

Page 23: Dollhouse group 13

Color• Color is going to be straight forward in the whole play. This is again because everything takes place in the same place, indoors.

Page 24: Dollhouse group 13

Distribution• All lighting will be from above at a 45 degree angle to prevent the ghostly shadows on the actors faces giving also the sense of an overhead light source found in most locations.

Page 25: Dollhouse group 13

• In this particular play we wont be doing a lot of movement with the lights since everything is going to be illuminated as a normal day in a condo.

• In the last scene, midnight inside the condo, we will use light to carry the audience sight to from character to character. Here we will be able to play more with lighting since it is night time outside and it wont be as bright on stage. Also because it is where all the tension of the play occurs giving the audience a sense of suspense.
