Methodology & Timeline
Recent hire interviews and focus groups yield numerous data points and narratives about the existing IGT career’s experience.
g Peer to peer focus groups
g Phone interviews
g Leverage existing knowledge from select subject matter experts
We dissect these narratives in order to group and organize all the activities and interactions that are part of the experience for applicants.
g Field Notes
g Analysis of sessions
Patterns across applicants develop into a holistic representative model of the experience and user persona.
g Experience model
g Applicant lifecycle
g Persona
These organizing structures are used as tools to define the future-state vision, generate concepts, and prioritize features and functions.
g Opportunity Map
g Site Map
g Persona scenarios
Leading ideas are shared and beta-tested with internal stakeholders

What is an experience model?g An experience model is composed of a series of
organizing structures that together help define the core of the IGT applicant experience. These structures are derived from narratives and native language gathered during the initial focus groups. First-hand narratives help us understand how customers make sense of their experience from psychic, emotive, and behavioral perspectives. As patterns emerge we identify core activity areas, use scenarios, and process flows, as well as catalog existing pain points and unmet needs, these underlying structures are then used to inform the development of persona as well as the identification of opportunities.
What is an opportunity map? g A user-driven opportunity map provides a visual
depiction of core solution areas for improvement to an existing experience. The structure of an opportunity map can vary, however typically it involves evaluating key persona against core activity areas and process flows. Solutions may range from fixing current pain points to enhancing existing solutions or adding new functionality.
g Opportunity maps are typically prioritized from the user’s perspective. That is they reflect the ideal set of future solutions for each persona. However this prioritization should be combined with other key inputs such as business objectives and technological realties as an input to decisions about future experience vision.
What are persona?g A persona is an iconic representation that “gives a
face” to an archetypal site user or a group of users. Formulated from user research and corporate knowledge, each persona profile is centered on key characteristics such as goals, behaviors, and motivations rather than demographics.
g Personas are tools used throughout the design process. We utilize each persona by running them through scenarios of use and testing proposed features, functionality, and content both for appropriateness and for utility. Would this persona do this task? Could this persona do this task as it is designed?
g Persona can also be used to set priorities, however they should be considered one of several inputs when making key business decisions. For example, a persona that represents a large user base may not be the one the organization values the most; other persona might provide more revenue, or use more online features.

Our applicant experience consists of five core activity areasg Apply: the core of the applicant experience. All other ac-
tivities are pathways to this function. In some capacities applicants have found confusion in what specific roles best fit their skill set.
g Learn: IGT’s prospective applicants have a range of needs — company stability, work/life balance, casual work environment — that are all met with varying degrees of success, however the applicant is still left with a less than desirable experience online.
g Live: applicants are looking for a range of content from
aspects of work to personal life; their desire: work to live and not live to work. Although a robust amount of information is provided in the way of benefits, retirement plans etc., IGT provides limited content in the way of both domestic and international locations.
g Grow: is an important aspect of any career path and namely the reason for many job transitions. In that respect, many applicants need the reassurance that this is the right choice. Though this activity is critical to many applicant lifecycles IGT does little in the way of providing any information on career growth or thourough explanations of job roles.
g Connect: an ancillary task offers a means of communication between IGT and the prospective applicant.
