Last week was a very busy time for myself and our class. Not only did I have my daughter, Emma here in Indone- sia, and travelling to Kalimantan but Pak Nuke, myself and our class went to Bandung for an overnight camp. I was impressed by the children, out of their comfort zone, no gadgets, no comforts of home and for some - no parents but taking full advantage of the experience. It was a privilege to take them on this adventure. Please check out the photos. Ibu Mahdi Sports Day - Friday 21st September. A morning of sport and games to remember and celebrate the work that Ibu Mahdi put into the school in the early years. Ibu Mahdi was one of the founders of the Bogor Expatriate School in 1974. Recognising that the expatriate children, from the Goodyear company, needed their own local school instead of the journey to Jakarta everyday. Ibu Mahdi remained an active member of the school community for many years acting as the Ketua - Chairman of the Yayasan. This Friday our students need to wear a t-shirt in their house colours. As in Ibu Madhi day tradition school will finish at 12 - half day for everyone. ELC Open Day Friday 28th September and Workshop Saturday 29th September The ISB Early Learning Centre is opening its doors next week and inviting you, your family and friends to come and see the great work being done in their space. This hands on classroom encourages our young students to explore their world through play communicating and interacting with their peers and a network of highly trained teachers. Come along and join the fun with your under 5s. Following the Open Day, Ms Miriam and the staff from ELC will be holding the first of 4 workshops for parents of young children, beginning on Saturday 29th. These amazing workshops look at a range of topics that support, inspire and guide parents and demonstrate a range of learning ideas to help you and your child grow in confidence. Be sure to contact the office to book your place. We look forward to seeing you there. In school swimming classes As part of our school educational program, learning to swim is an important aspect of the PE curriculum and like all other areas of the school curriculum, not an option. If your child is unwell or recovering from an illness and can not swim, please send them to school with a note of Week 8 - 21st Sep—Ibu Mahdi Sports Day Week 9 - 24th Sep—Parent Teacher Conference exemption. But please, I can not stress the importance of being confident in the water and can assure you that the pool is well maintained and clean. ‘Drowning is a leading cause of death among children in Asia. It is estimated that upward of 400,000 people drown every year. It is a major public health issue in Indonesia, the world’s 4th most populous country. It is often called an invisible issue’. (http://swimdo.org/) Parent Teacher Conferences - Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th September Ms Miriam and the team in ELC will contact their parents directly to ensure that you are able to make a time to visit with her and look at the work your child is doing and where their next learning steps take them. For myself and Ms Melodie, a schedule of the times available will be release tomorrow. Please be sure to note your preferred time and let us know. We are both looking forward to setting educational, personal and social goals for your children. Lots to cover this week, I hope to see you all at Friday’s assembly and participating in the Ibu Mahdi Sports Day. Kind regards, Donna Lee Bloor 18th September Glenn 21st September Alikha

Green Camp is a day camp

planned for the Oct 8-12

school break for children ages

5-12 who might like to

participate in a fun, active

learning experience with new

friends. All activities are in English. Green camp is being promoted to

children outside our ISB community as a way of experiencing first hand our

lovely green campus, learning methodology while interacting with supervised English speaking

volunteers who will be working as camp counselors. There are field trips, arts and crafts,

cooking, music, and physical challenges planned for the participating children. The green camp

theme will focus on helping children appreciate the natural environment and understand the

consequences of pollution. There are morning or afternoon sessions if children have other

commitments. Lunch will be provided for day campers. If you haven’t done so already, please

consider signing up your child now. Please invite other families you know to consider sending

their child. (An easy what’s app flyer is available to spread around) SBR and ACG (Jakarta) are

both on term break that same week. Please help us invite families who might benefit from this

week of unique activities. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Doreen Biehle for

more information; [email protected]
