Doonbank Trofee Cyclocross Rozelle Park, Ayr 24 th January 2016 Rider information pack Welcome Well done you! You have entered the second Doonbank Trofee Cyclocross in Ayr, hosted by Ayr Burners Cycling. We’ve prepared this guide to help you plan for and enjoy your day. We’ve also prepared it so that JP and Chris know what they are meant to be doing. If you see them looking dazed and confused on the day please feel free to prompt them with a cue! What? The ‘Doonbank Trofee’ is a day of cyclocross fun for all ages. We have access to a lovely scenic park just next door to the Bard’s birthplace in Alloway so we hope he enjoys an early birthday present. We have two competitions taking place: Round 2 of the Super Quaich Series, for everyone over 16 Round 4 of the SC South West Winter Series, for everyone under 16 Cyclocross racing is by far the bestest racing out there. Typically a winter discipline, it sees competitors charge around an off-road circuit for anything up to an hour, looking for the fastest way to face obstacles including hurdles, sand, mud and deeper mud. This should involve a bit of running. The Super Quaich The Super Quaich is a new, four-race series, insured via TLI (www.tlicycling.org.uk). It’s primary aim is to maximise and extend the thrill of racing throughout all ability levels. We want as many riders as possible to have a rider just ahead of them and a rider chasing them close behind. When this happens every rider gets a racing experience. Visit www.superquaich.cx for all the relevant rules on points etc. SC South West Winter Series The SC South West Winter Series is a new seven-race series primarily aimed at youths and run by the clubs affiliated with Scottish Cycling South West. There will be points awarded for all youth categories at each event with the best 5 counting towards the overall series placings. Visit www.scottishcycling.org.uk for all the relevant rules and regulations. The Doonbank Trofee races are supported by the members, friends and supporters of Ayr Burners Cycling QTS.

Why? Ayr Burners Cycling is Ayrshire’s fastest growing cycling community. Our aims are to promote cycling opportunities across Ayrshire and encourage cyclists to visit Ayrshire. We love cyclocross as an accessible, family friendly discipline of cycle sport, taking place in secure off-road environments, not requiring specific technical skills to participate, and allowing cyclists of all ages and abilities to ride together. Organisers JP and Chris are also closet racing fans. Although renowned locally for not being a #topperformer, JP is a regular on the cyclocross circuit best known for keeping his white bar tape CLEAN. Meanwhile Chris is still troubled over whether he prefers andalouse sauce or plain old mayo with his frites, and has got the belly to prove it. Ayr Burners Cycling are grateful to South Ayrshire Council for providing permission to use the popular Rozelle Park. We are excited to welcome cross fans from across Scotland to enjoy our particular local brand of mud. When? The Ayrshire Alps Friendly takes place on Sunday 24th January, starting at 09:30. Where? The Doonbank Trofee takes place at Rozelle Park in Ayr. We have access to changing facilities including showers at the venue.

Strip Address: Rozelle Park, Monument Road Ayr, KA7 4NQ

Car Parking Parking at the site is VERY limited and will be carefully marshalled. There is nearby on-street parking on ‘The Loaning’ (KA7 4QL) that we encourage participants to use.

Rozelle Park is in a prime location close to the centre of Ayr. It is popular with the public and dog walkers especially, so please show due care and consideration when preparing for the event. The majority of the course takes place on an old pitch-and-put course with some quality banking. The course is soft underfoot and we expect the north east corner to chew-up substantially as the day goes on. In the main section of the park our course deliberately hugs the tree line in order to minimise the visual disturbance to the park.

How? Registering The Super Quaich events have fully sold out so no on-the-day entry will be accepted. Riders should go to race sign-on before their event to collect their number and timing chip on presentation of a valid TLI membership card. The timing chips have been hired specially for the event and are expensive, so please make sure to return yours after the event. Youth racers participating in the Scottish Cycling South West series should register online via the British Cycling events page: https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/138683/ABC-DoonBank-Trofee

Due to heavily saturated ground please warm up on tarmac or the actual race course only. This will minimise damage to the park so we can return!

Registration for youth events is ONLINE ONLY due to limited course capacity
