Prof. Dixon of Jackson County was a Double Springs visitor Sunday. Wonder what is attracted hisattention up this way.

Misses Nettie Smith and Bula Ligon spent Sunday after afternoon and night with Miss Gertie Stewart.

Miss Mattie Pippin entertained with a goose egg hunt for her little friends Sunday afternoon.

Miss Nettie Jones is with Mrs. Buck Ligon at present.

Corder Lindsey was at Double Springs the 28th. Someone said they saw him with Shorty at the depotwaiting for the train. They both looked like they wouldn’t car for the train being late.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Palk of near Double Springs a big boy, March 28th.

Myrtle Judd entertained with a singing Saturday night. A large crowd was present and everybody had anice time.

Miss Ona Perkins and Hershall Armster of near Chestnut Mound visited Mr. and Mrs. Fate Ligon fromFriday till Sunday.

Miss Gladys Ligon gave her little friends an egg hunt Sunday afternoon. All had a nice time.

Mrs. Anie Palk, wife of Clay Palk died in Oklahoma recently. Mrs. Palk was before her marriage MissAnnie Scarlett.

Walter Judd is erecting a nice Livery Stable in Double Springs. He will handle a lot of nice pigs. Come onboys take “her” out for a ride.

Walter Judd and Albert Goolsby went to Post Oak the fourth Sunday.

Delia Burton went to Nashville Friday morning returning that night.

Lizzie Goolsby seems to be proud of green plush dresses, as she was seen wearing on Sunday.

Myrtle Judd spent Sunday in Baxter. She returned Sunday night. Maggie Brown accompanied her home.

Miss Ethel Stephens was visiting at Gentry the latter part of the week. She returned Sunday night.

Come on March Flowers, your letter was fine. Someone said the reason H. E. S. was late at Sunday school,he had a new collar and tie and had to admire himself in the mirror before he could start.

DOUBLE SPRINGS School is progressing nicely at this place with a large attendance.

Charlie Hoosier is very ill with pneumonia in the City hospital at Cookeville.

Nell Ligon spent last Thursday night with Berchie and Verdie Sadler.

A basketball game was played between Double Springs and Cookeville last Friday afternoon. The girlsscore was 6 to 20 in favor of Double Springs and the boys score was 8 to 36 in favor of Double Springs.We wish them to return the game soon.

John Tucker has moved his store over near the cross roads.

Mr. and Mrs. Carmon Pippin, who have been visiting here for some time have returned to Chattanooga totheir home.

Brother Bonkemyer preached a very interesting sermon at this place Sunday.

Simon Birdwell visited Nell Tucker Sunday.

Byrd Goolsby, who has been very ill, is improving slowly.

DOUBLE SPRINGS The Double Springs boys’ 4H club met at the school building March 20, at 1o’clock which was the second meeting of the year. Those present were, H. J. Childress, County Agent,Hollie Shipley, L. K. Godsey, Rufus Brown, Cecil Dyer, J. P. McBroom, Glair Billingsley, ShermanHarris. The subject on which Mr. Childress talked was, “Pigs, Chickens, Corn and Potatoes”. Officerswere elected. Hollie Shipley, president, L. K. Gosey, vicepresident, Rufus Brown, secretary. We hope tohave another meeting soon, with a larger enrollment, several were absent on account of sickness and work.We hope that each and every one will carry the things home that Mr. Childress has said and do what hesaid, and I am sure we will have better results in our farming and cattle growing. Come on out the rest ofyou boys and join our club, we have bushels of fun and learn a lot in the time of it. Come and let’s make

the Double Springs club the biggest and best in the county. Show the people what we can do. Come jointoday, and let’s get goin’.

Miss Wilma Schubert met with the 4H Club girls at Double Springs Tuesday afternoon, at 2:30 o’clockand had an interesting meeting.

On account of it’s raining most all day, there were only eight members present. Had a discussion about theclub rally which will be held at Cookeville, Saturday, May 2. We hope that we will have more 4H boysand girls at the rally than there has ever been before. We hope to have all our 22 members present that day.

DOUBLE SPRINGS – The 4H Club girls met at the home of Miss Lillian Bockman Friday, June 5, at 1o’clock, and held a very interesting meeting. Fifteen members were present, they were Dona Lee Loftis,Nell Tucker, Opal Kirby, Mildred Shipley, Melverdie Farley, Lola Webb, Johnie Rheba Hoosier, Lola B.Loftis, Agnes Shipley, Roberta Farley, Dimple Webb, Pearl Bockman, Johnie Tucker, Tennie Godsey andLillian Bockman.

The following visited the meeting, Mrs. Jim Sherrell, Mrs. W. W. Pendergrass and Mrs. B. O. Bockman.

After the meeting was over, games were played, songs and funny stunts were pulled. At 5 o’clockrefreshments were served by Mrs. B. O. Bockman. All reported a very nice time. Their next meeting willbe held Friday, June 12, at the home of Dona Lee Loftis.

Mr. and Mrs. Dias Hancock visited relatives at Boma Saturday night.

Several from here have been attending the tent meeting near Baxter, this week.

The Double Springs boys and girls defeated the Monterey boys and girls in basketball Friday evening atMonterey. The score of the girls’ being 182 and that of the boys’ game 2211.

The Double Springs Sunday school enjoyed a delightful picnic Saturday afternoon at a spring near Boma.

School is progressing nicely at this place with a very large attendance. We have two basketball teams, bothboys and girls. They defeated Monterey Friday night by a very large score. The girls score was 43 to 2, theboys’ 26 to 11, in favor of our teams.

Services Friday For Mrs. Emma Roberts:

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Sherrill Roberts, 89, were held Friday with the Rev. P. A. Ervinofficiating. Burial was in Hickey cemetery, near Silver Point.

Mrs. Roberts died Wednesday at the home of a niece, Mrs. Samantha Tucker, of Double Springs.

Widow of the late J. V. Roberts, she was born and reared in Putnam County. She went to Arkansas threeyears ago to live with her son, who died of a heart attack on Oct. 1. Mrs. Roberts had been back inTennessee ten weeks before her death.

Survivors include one sister Mrs. Lucy Vance, Detroit, four grandchildren and a number of nieces andnephews.

Mr. and Mrs. Victor Pharris and children of Detroit came in last week to visit Mrs. Bell Pharris and otherrelatives and friends in this community.

Miss Bobby Jean Manier of Cookeville, Rt. 2, spent Sunday with Rachael McBroom.

Robert McBroom has returned home after spending some time in Detroit visiting his sons and daughters.

Those visiting in the Presbyterian Church last Thursday night were Mrs. Carson Whitaker and son, Ronnie,and Mrs. Tina Maxwell and Lorene of Ensor Community, and Rev. Blair and Mrs. Blair and daughter ofCedar Hill.


DOUBLE SPRINGS – The young people of the Presbyterian Church will present a Christmas programSunday night at six o’clock. Everyone is invited to attend.

Sam Hutchison has gone to Detroit for a visit with relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. James Baldwin of FL are visiting her mother, Mrs. Ben Philpot and Mr. Philpot.

Mrs. J. B. Brown of Nashville is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Taylor Parks.
