Letter’s From Timothy
I recently heard someone say,
“There’s only 90 days till Christ-
mas!” It was quite a shock! 2009
is already winding down?! Soon
we will be out of the aught years
and into the “teen” years of the
new century. October is upon us
with the excitement of our Harvest
Festival. We are having a “light”
schedule this year. We will not
have a live auction or children’s
area. We also have a much abbre-
viated schedule. Doors will open
at 10am for the bake sale (with a
few crafts) and silent auction bid-
ding. Meal service will begin at
11am. The last silent auction table
will close at 1:00pm. Thank you
for your donations and participa-
tion.
I hope everyone will be present
next Sunday as we honor Robert
and Virginia Morgan for their many
years of service at Couts. We will
recognize them in both services and
we will have a reception in the
Welcome Center, between the ser-
vices. Come join me as we honor
two of our finest servants and give
thanks to God for their faithful
service.
Don’t forget, the last Sunday in
October is our annual Charge
Conference! We look forward to
hearing a word from our new Dis-
trict Superintendent, Dr. Ginger
Bassford.
Keep the SON in your eyes!

Resident Bishop
September 1, 2009
Dear Pastor,
Greetings in the name of Christ! Please receive this letter as my congratulations and appreciation to you
and your church for keeping up with your apportionment payout. I recognize this as a sign of commitment
and accomplishment on your part of both pastor and congregation for the kingdom building work of our Lord.
You are faithful stewards and here at the Conference, we applaud and support your efforts.
The Conference is only able to support the outreach ministry of the Church as a whole because of the
churches that pay their apportionments regularly throughout the year.
Once again, please accept this letter as a sign of my great appreciation for this shared ministry. With the
Apostle Paul, “I thank my God every time I remember you...because of your sharing the gospel from the first
day until now.” (Philippians 1:3,5)
Yours in Christ,
Bishop Mike Lowry

From our Prayer Advocate
Andy Thompson
I have just finished a daily devotional written by
Ann Spangler entitled PRAYING THE NAMES
OF JESUS. She had the last weeks series on JE-
SUS THE I AM. Scripture reference was John 15:
1-16. Quoting:
“The kind of abiding that Jesus speaks of in John’s
Gospel is a life long abiding accomplished through
faith and obedience. Furthermore, we abide not as
a simple branch isolated from others, but in unison
with Christ and with other behaviors. Together we
are branches o f ‘ t he t rue v ine . ’
For each of us, abiding in the true vine is a life
long, sometimes painful process. Like branches on
a vine, we have to be pruned so that we can be
more faithful in the future than we have been in the
past.
Apart from Christ we shrivel and die. But united
with Him we experience the God-blessed life,
which, as Paul told the Galatians, produces love,
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithful-
ness, gentleness, and self-control. (Gal 5: 22-23).
Indeed, we are called to bear fruit that will last.
Today, ask God for the grace to recognize your true
purpose in life, which is not to be blessed but to be-
come a blessing bearing the sweetness of Christ to
all who are hungry for him.”
Hope to see you at the Quarterly Prayer Breakfast
on the 24th of October 2009.
Yours in Christ,
Andy Thompson
“I have not forgotten to write, it has just been really busy lately. The internet is not fully operational
right now. I will write as soon as things clear up. Please let everyone know how mjch I enjoyed the box
and most of all the letters! God Bless you for all you are doing.”

Couts United Methodist Women
The Couts United Methodist Women may be small in number, but the contribution that
they make to Mission and Outreach is no small order. In addition to the contributions
made to the UMW District, Conference, and Global Ministries, several local projects have
been of importance. Each year the group sponsors the collection of school supplies for
local chil- dren unable to buy needed supplies. Contributions have been
made to Grace House, Manna, and Center of Hope. Each year before
Christmas, they have supported the Operation Christmas Child boxes spon-
sored by Samaritans purse.
Last Spring several of the UMW Women at- tended
the Adult Mission Trip to Sager Brown. While there, they worked
on various projects which included the birthing kits and school
bags for underprivileged children. The birthing kits are sent by UMCOR to third world
countries to assist women who have no medical facilities for child birth.
The Couts UMW has recently finish and sent 106 of the kits to UMCOR to
help meet this need. They are now working on the school kits and plans are to
make 400 of these bags this year to deliver to UMCOR when the Adult Mis-
sion Trip returns next Spring.
The United Methodist Women meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 10:00 AM in the Fel-
lowship Hall. All ladies are invited to attend and become part of these projects.
Even if you are not a member of UMW, your help and assistance in these projects would
be appreciated. To assist, contact Virginia Morgan, Dora Jones or Mary Thomas.
Operation Christmas Child
If you would be interested in buying a Christmas gift for a boy or girl who
would otherwise not have Christmas, we will have boxes and gift lists avail-
able in the Welcome Center beginning this Sunday.
Couts Center of Hope Week November 2nd - 5th
Volunteers are needed to provide food and to help serve the
clients at the Center of Hope. If you or your Sunday School
Class would be willing to be a part of this ministry, there are
sign-up sheets in the Welcome Center.
If you have questions, please call Kathy Smith
or the church office.

CONVERSATIONS YOU MUST
HAVE WITH YOUR DAUGHTER
A 6 week study for Moms by Vicki Courtney, Led by Sarah Jarrell
Wednesday Evenings 6:30 p.m. - 7:45 p.m.
October 28 - December 2
Beneficial for moms with preschoolers to College age daughters.
STUDY BOOK $17.00
Your daughter’s growing up. The world has a lot to say to her, and she’s starting to
listen. Even if she doesn’t quite know it, she needs you more than ever. It’s time to
press in, to tell her some things she might not know - or may have forgotten – about
who she is in God’s eyes.
This bible study equips moms to have the 5 conversations that will empower their daughters to stand firm
in the midst of a culture that would rob them of their treasured status:
You are more than what people see on the outside.
You shouldn’t be in a hurry to grow up.
Sex is great and worth the wait.
It’s OK to dream about marriage and motherhood.
Girls gone wild are a dime a dozen.
Just 5 conversations, but they could be the basis of a whole new way of relating to your daughter.

What’s happening in Sunday school??
5th-6th Grade
Tweens are studying Live It!
Live It! is designed to help
tweens face today’s issues with
a real understanding of how
their faith impacts their lives
every day. Live It! will help
tweens develop meaningful rela-
tionships with family, friends,
and most importantly, Jesus
Christ. It will also help them
develop the skills they need to
make godly decisions in today’s
world. The focus for this
month is being a Christian at
school.

Youth Notes October 2009
October
Welcome to another exciting edition of Youth Notes!!
September was a great start to the year. Our Deep Dive groups are solidifying as we sort out the groupings. I’ve seen a lot of great discus-sions and insight from these groups. I’m very excited to see the progress in the coming months. Kim Safford has been invaluable in
helping me set up and lead these groups. I greatly appreciate her hard work and patience as we solidify the methodology for these groups.
September 23rd saw a great turnout for “Polevault”, the follow-up to “See You at the Pole”. The worship service was EXCELLENT and I think the kids were really energized. I cer-tainly was!! :)
Coming up, we have a trip to Six Flags planned for October 24th and the first Youth Praise
Service on October 28th in the Youth Room. We had planned to kick it off in September, but “Polevault” was scheduled for the same day so we decided to postpone it until October.
The “Vintage Jesus” Bible study is progressing well. Curtis Nager has worked very hard to en-sure that the students are absorbing the mate-rial and also enjoying the discussion topics. He and John Jester have been a blessing to me and to the students in Sunday School.
As I’m sure you all know, we have an abso-lutely amazing group of kids here at Couts. It has been an incredible experience to be sur-rounded by their energy. To all of the parents,
I sincerely thank you for allowing me to spend this time with your kids. They are daily bless-ings.
Until November!!
Brad Vantine
