Annual Luncheon Minutes November 11, 2012 Frank Tillman, KN6LM, was the Master of Ceremonies and brought the luncheon to or-der at 11:32 AM with 45 in attendance. We commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Frank Myllo, KC6YPV. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Frank Myers, N6ATU, led the invocation. President Rick Norwood, KD6KHJ, gave the group a brief synopsis of this year's Club activities. Rick also provided a slide show of this year’s different events. Following Rick comments the group was excused by table to the buffet table.

Once lunch was completed, Arlene Schwartz, KE6GFI, introduced our guest speakers Gayle Olson, K6GO, and Rosemary Kalkofen, AF6WF two members of the YL DXpedition group. They provided a slide show presentation of their expedition to PJ2 Curacao. Tom VanBuskirk, K6TV, de-installed the outgoing Club Officers and installed incoming Club Officers. Tom also performed the duties of handing out this year’s annual awards where various members received certificates of appreciation, and Paul Metzger, K6EH, received the 2012 Ham of the Year Award. Bill Heather, KB6WKT, provided the group with 2012 Field Day results. John Schroeder, N6QQ, provided raffle prizes. The following individuals won prizes; Paul Metzger, K6EH, a Watt Meter; John Johnson, W6NH, Cordless Telephones; Larry Tinkler, K6LXT, Coolpix Digital Camera; Ed Roos, KC6ZHY, Digital Clock; Ray Olesen, AD6AF, a Watt Meter and battery; Rosemary Kalkofen, AF6WF, Desk Chair and Cart; Buck Kerns, AE6DT, Screw Driver Set. The Grand Prize of a BaoFeng VHF/UHF HT was won by Ray Olesen, AD6AF. Luncheon Adjourned 13:40 hours. Respectfully Submitted Bill Heather KB6WKT Secretary

NOTICE: As many members of the Club have the Yaesu FT-60 or 60R I thought I'd pass along a bit of info I just found out about the factory supplied battery pack. Take a look at the pack inside and if the last cell has metal exposed, that actually com-pletes the charger circuit if you use the stock "wall-wart" (via the chrome spring contact near the bot-tom of the HT). According to Blue Grass Batteries & Electronics, that battery pack has been discontin-ued by Yaesu, and replacement packs will NOT work with the Yaesu wall charger. I bought one from them and I now need to use a base charger. They sold me one for $25 + shipping, which I found was a fair price.

So, if you replace your original pack, check the new one carefully, if there's no bare cell, then the origi-nal charger will not work. Sorry, its not a simple fix like cutting some plastic off they said, probably as the original cells have a metal skin and the replace-ment cells may not.

Ab-sent: VP Programs, Dave Glenn, N6TEB; VP Service Open; VP Membership Open

Bill reported that he spoke to Janet at HRO and that there are two companies making repeaters for the ama-teur market. They are Icom and Vertex Standard, which is the commercial side of Yaesu. Bill reported that Janet will email for a price quote on the Icom system and will get back to him on the week of 11/21/12.

Kent, provided a report on Tour de Sewer II. The new route went faster than the old route. Rick commented that there were approximately 365 riders. Bill reported that position 7 is an area that should have 2 volunteers for safety reasons for personnel.

Rick reported on JOTA. Their Scout leader was happy with DARC participation and has requested us for next year. John Schroeder, N6QQ said 38 kids received their radio merit badge.

Ron commented that the Luncheon went very well. Kent suggested that for next year the club should not supplement the cost of the luncheon. After a brief discussion pricing will be set at a later date. Next year’s luncheon will be November 10, 2013 to be at Rio Hondo Country Club.

Kent reported that the Christmas Parade is set. A couple of people are needed for the event. All other items are completed for the event.

Rick reviewed events for 2013. Since VP of Service is vacant, Rick recommend that different officers of Board take charge of individual events. ARC Walk, Buck; Street Fair, Kent; Hawaiian Days Festival, Buck; Amazing Day, Rick; Tour de Sewer co-chairs Rick and Kent; JOTA Frank; Christmas Parade - Kent. Kent reported that for the Street Fair we will need to help with security at Downey High Parking lot.

Kent reported that mass mailing to local hams that are not members of the Club will be done after January 1.

Frank reported that the Audit Committee needs to be formed. Steve, Ron and a 3rd person to be named at a later date. Once the 3rd person is named, then the committee will set a date that is suitable for everyone to perform the audit.

Rick, recommend that the Board meeting start at 19:00 instead of 19:30 hours. After some discussion it was decided to move the start time to 19:00 hours. If the time does not work, the Board agreed to move the start time back to 19:30 hours. Buck commented that he needs 2013 schedule for the EOC room.

Meeting adjourned 20:08
