A liposome composition which contains bet- ween 1-20 mole percent of an amphipathic lipid derivatized with a polyalkylether, as exemplified by phosphatidylethanolamine derivatized with polyethyleneglycol. The derivatized lipid enchances the circulation time of the liposomes severalfold, and this enhancement is achieved with either fluid or membrane-rigidifying lipo- some components. Also disclosed are methods for delivering a drug for slow release from the bloodstream, and for targeting a selected tissue or cells with liposomes, via the bloodstream.

Africanized honey bees are identified by using a DNA probe capable of identifying a specific repeating gene sequence in the honey bee DNA which is a diagnostic characteristic of African honey bees when located on a defined restriction endonuclease fragment from bee genomic DNA. When the DNA probe is applied to an elec- trophoresis gel on which the restriction frag- ments are resolved, the probe hybridizes to the diagnostic fragment, if present. The hybridiza- tion to the repeating sequence can then be detec- ted by detection of the marker.

Disclosed are immunological methods and materials for detection of antigens associated with breast or prostate cancer disease states. Pre- sently preferred antibody preparations (e.g.,

PR92 monoclonal antibodies produced by hybridoma cell line ATCC HB 9390) are em- ployed in immunoassays performed on patient body fluids and for purification of tumor- associated antigen compositions.

The invention relates to a process for the pre- paration of colorants and/or active compounds by culturing a microorganism of the genus Monaseus in a sterilizable fluidized-bed fermen- ter of low water content, such as was proposed in German Patent Application P 3,625,698.6. The fluidizable particle used here is the micro- organism itself-in pellet form or grown on carriers-which can be supplied with nutrients by spraying in substrate solutions. The colorants and/or active compounds are isolated by extrac- tion with organic solvents.

An acyloxyacyl hydrolase from the human pro- myelocyte cell line HL-60 has been found to specifically hydrolyze fatty acids from their ester linkages to hydroxy groups of 3-hydroxyfatty acids, the latter being being bound in turn to lipopolysaccharide glycosaminyl residues. The hydrolyzed fatty acids may include dodecanoic acid, tetradecanoic acid and hexadecanoic acid. This enzyme showed a molecular weight by gel exclusion chromatography between about 50,000 Daltons and about 70,000 Daltons, and a molecular weight by polyacrylamide gel elec- trophoresis with sodium dodecylsulphate, using reduced molecular weight standards, of approx-
