Terrific Tuesday’s
My Terrific Tuesday’s will start back on Tuesday 12th April with a
morning to wind up the swimming programme. This will
commence at 10am to catch up with everyone since our final
morning tea after our last water session was cancelled. Please
come along for a cuppa and maybe I’ll cook (something
healthy!) for morning tea!! Doesn’t matter if you swam or not I’d
love to see you there.
As the cooler weather comes upon us so does the end of our
ever popular swimming programme. Plenty of cackling and
laughter could be heard from the newly refurbished facility, it
providing the venue for our 6 week programme. Lots of new
faces entered the pool this season which gave us all the
opportunity to either meet new people or catch up with
friends that we hadn’t seen for a while.
After plenty of backlash from last season that the instructor
was too “chicken” to get in the pool, I led by example and
donned the cosy and splashed into the water on many
occasions this year. I think all participants found it quite
amusing that I would struggle to be able to talk, swim, exercise
and try to maintain all composure while instructing and not
drowning. I’m sure there was a couple of ladies that giggled
to themselves (you know who you are)!!!
The kickboards and noodles gave us plenty of challenging
moves……..some participants conquering, some not!! But no
matter how weird the exercises seemed to be everyone gave
it a go and that’s why it was a wonderful atmosphere to be in!
Thank you to everyone that participated, it provided me with
my weekly laughter therapy and thank you to the pool
committee for allowing us to use this wonderful facility, the
refurbishment is fantastic and so much more welcoming.

Planned Activity Group Exploring the local area our first trip was to
Toolondo to check out the picture frame and
have a picnic lunch. After the photo oppor-
tunity in the frame, we returned via caravan
park, McPhee drive and Rocklands and back in
Balmoral in time for afternoon tea.
A visit from Men’s group from Minyip, Murtoa
and Rupanyup on Friday 11th involved a tour of
the Centre, Men’s Shed and then a trip to
“Stanmore”, where our hosts Martin and Jodie
explained the history of the house and garden.
Then off to the Hotel for lunch, lots and talking
and sharing ideas with our members of the
Men’s Shed, a great day had by all.
At the Balmoral Show this year the Men’s shed
members worked with the children at the show
to nail together and build a tool box; this was a
very busy afternoon. Special thank you to all
the men for working together over the past
weeks to cut, sand and prepare the tool box
kits, to be built on show day.
Movie afternoon “Last Cab to Darwin” Rex a
Broken Hill cab driver who, when told he
doesn’t have long to live, sets out on an epic
journey to Darwin in a bid to die on his own
terms. Filled with hope, humour and heart, Last
Cab to Darwin reminds us all that it’s never too
late to start living.
Wishing everyone a very Safe and Happy
Easter.

What is Cardiopulmonary resuscitation?? (CPR)
If the heart stops pumping, it is known as a cardiac arrest. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a
combination of techniques, including chest compressions, designed to pump the heart to get blood
circulating and deliver oxygen to the brain until definitive treatment can stimulate the heart to start
working again.
When the blood stops circulating, the brain is starved of oxygen and the person quickly becomes
unconscious and stops breathing. Without treatment, the person will die.
CPR can be life-saving first aid and increases the person’s chances of survival if started soon after the
heart has stopped beating. If no CPR is performed, it only takes three to four minutes for the person
to become brain dead due to a lack of oxygen.
By performing CPR, you circulate the blood so it can provide oxygen to the body, and the brain and
other organs stay alive while you wait for the ambulance. There is usually enough oxygen still in the
blood to keep the brain and other organs alive for a number of minutes, but it is not circulating unless
someone does CPR. CPR does not guarantee that the person will survive, but it does give that person
a chance when otherwise there would have been none.
CPR is most successful when administered as quickly as possible. It
should only be performed when a person shows no signs of life.

This month at the
Balmoral Early
Learning Centre We have had a few staff movements at the centre this
month. We have sadly said goodbye to Melissa and wish
her all the very best for the future. We have welcomed
Jessie who is currently studying her certificate 3 and will be
with us for the rest of 2016. I also would like to thank
everyone for their support over the past couple of months
while I have been in the acting team leader role. I have
thoroughly enjoyed the role.
Since this month has been a short one for us here, we have
been busy finishing off our Balmoral show item. The children
created shape pictures using different items as their shapes.
The children told the educators what their pictures were
and some were very creative, for example, “a mountain
with a stick trap”, “a big cruise ship”, “a table mat”.
The children have also been doing many things for Easter,
including pasting and making Easter bunnies, making rabbit
and chicken baskets and going on an Easter hunts.
The children have had an interest in pirates and were really
excited when I pumped up the big pirate boat to have in
the room. The children have been on big adventures to
many different islands – motorbike island as one example.
