Introduction
To create a character for a game I need to take many
things into consideration to insure that I do not add
any offences or discrimination to it. I also must follow
legal considerations so that I do not copyright or
exceed the age rating I have given my game. I need to
keep within restrictions for the console and how to
make it easier for myself to create it.
Character
The character I have chosen is not a specific character
in the main story, but is one of the many general elf
characters that could be known as the Elf Queens
warriors. In creating an elf from a Pratchett book, they
fall under different specifications to how an elf is
described in Tolkien books. They are shown in a
different light to how they are usually portrayed, and
are described as elegant and terrific yet are evil and
have a menace about them. In standard fantasy, elves
are described as having long sleek hair, with long
faces and an elegant posture, and a suggestion of them
being good, whereas in Pratchetts description, theyare described to wear objects and feathers, and have
greasy halos of hair, with a dark alignment. To create
a Pratchett elf I would need to keep away from the
generic elf, but I will give them a slightly generic
design to give them a better elven culture, which will
be leaves, as they are usually connected with each
other.
In issues that cover the race, gender, religion and
sexuality, I dont have much to consider. Where race
is considered, I am following the novels specified
race of an elf, and so this is shouldnt be offensive in
anyway. For the gender selection I dont have much to
go by from the book, as no gender is specified. Where
elves are mentioned in other films and books, they

arent given a definite gender. Elves can be portrayed
as male or female, each being given an elegant and
sleek appearance and posture. Keeping this in mind, I
can use whichever gender without causing offence.
However, the use of the title warriors suggests to methat they would be male, so I am highly unsure about
which gender to do. In my quick design sketches I
have mainly drawn women, but in one I have drawn
men and I think that a male warrior would be more
appropriate.

Elves are described as not having any emotion in the
book, and therefore I am deciding not to mention, or
even give them any sexual orientation. This would
also lead to less graphic images, thus keeping in line
with an appropriate age rating of 12+, following the
PEGI guidelines. By following this, it means that I can
add a slight amount more of graphic violence and mild
language, without exceeding the limit and entering the
15 age restrictions guidelines. However, even though
I am avoiding sexuality with the no emotion factor,
this may in fact offend some people as it may be a big
issue in their own life. Although, this does not reside
from my game as it would be personal to them.
To find more descriptions, as the book I owned
doesnt include more than around a page, I searched
the internet to find more. By searching Google I
found a few sites that gave me more than enough
information on their appearance to use.

his influences myideas as I need them to inflict terror but still be
marvellous at the same time. This would influence the
appearance and the personalities of my characters.
Issues
I have to follow the guidelines of PEGI so that I can
create my game in an acceptable manner for the
audience Im aiming it at. As I am aiming my game at
a 12+ age group, I need to follow the followingguideline:
PEGI 12 - Videogames that show violence of a slightly
more graphic nature towards fantasy character and/or non-
graphic violence towards human-looking characters or
recognisable animals, as well as videogames that show nudity of a
slightly more graphic nature would fall in this age category. Any bad
language in this category must be mild and fall short of sexual
expletives.
As my character is more of a fantasy character, I can
include more graphic nature towards it. However, it
also looks human, so I cant add too much of this,
otherwise it would possibly offend someone.
To keep away from copyright issues and plagiarism
ofTerry Pratchetts idea, my work will not be used to
make money for myself, and will solely be used for
my project and as fan art.
Specifications
To create my character I will be using programs such
as Maya, Zbrush, Sculptris and Unity. I have already
created the base mesh in Maya. Exporting from Maya
to Zbrush I will be saving as an .obj or .ma file, and I

will save it in Zbrush as a Ztool. I will save them in
the project folder that I have created for them.
The model has a polygon and size limit that I must
follow. These are as follows:
y The model build polygon limit is 10000 triangles/5000quads
y The model will be 512x512y It will be under 500kb
The model will be made to feature on an iPad, iPod or
iPhone. It will be required to fit the specifications of
these, which are:
The iPad specifications
y Screen Height 9.50 inchesy Screen Width 7.31 inchesy Display 1024 pixels by 768 pixels, 132 pixels per inchy 1GHz dual-core Apple A5 custom-designed, high-
performance, low-power system-on-a-chip
The iPhone specifications
