OPERATIONS: This past week, we conducted final interviews

for our open police officer positions. After the

process was completed, we selected three

outstanding candidates and sent conditional job

offers. Pending the finalization of the

psychological and medical assessments, we will

plan to bring the list forward for council review.

We have finished up many housekeeping duties

and continued to improve our workspace by

replacing ceiling tiles, painting, and doing some

general maintenance. This week, we began

dismantling our evidence storage area and are

making way to establish standardized evidence

intake and storage practices.

On March 16, Detective Randall presented

information on internet safety at the FDLTCC

for Mentoring Day 2015 hosted by the

Northern Lights Interagency Council. Several

hundred were in attendance.

On March 18th Detective Randall and Officer

Beckman attended and participated in the

Carlton County Drug Court Open House at the

Carlton County Courthouse. We continue to be

actively involved in the drug court program.

Detective Randall and Officer Beckman are

planning to attend some additional training on

this process in May.

This week our staff partnered with Restorative

Justice staff, School District staff, and Probation

to discuss best practices for dealing with conduct

and behavioral controls in the school system.

We are updating our field training program and

developmental tracking procedures in an effort

to provide the best and most consistent training

for our new officers. At the end of April, five of

our staff will be attending a course for field

trainer officers in Hermantown.

A new initiatve going into spring is our effort to

obtain bicycles and officer bicycle training. We

are currently working on funding ideas.

We hope to get at least 4-6 of our officers

bike certified and out in our

neighborhoods by summertime.

PATROL/DETECTIVES: Over the past month and more intensely in

the past two weeks, we have added

criminal interdiction patrols to our regular

staffing. We have filled over 20 extra

shifts this month with officers primarily

focused on interdicting and targeting drug

traffickers. Results have been notable and

we have arrested several and cited many

more for controlled substance and other

violations. These shift expenses are

reimbursed through a grant agreement.

With spring upon is, we have noticed an

increase in garage burglaries and car

break-ins. We are asking the public to be

alert and aware of suspicious persons or

vehicles and dont hesitate to call 9-1-1.

Checking exterior lighting and locks on

your doors and windows is also a good

idea to harden targets in our

neighborhoods.

This week, we joined efforts with

FDLTCC by taking part in a coordinated

community response in their Grant to

Reduce Sexual Assault, Domestic

Violence, Dating Violence and Stalking

on Campus initiative. This participation

falls in line with our commitment to

improve our response to these types of

crimes on campus and in the greater

Cloquet community.
