by the state and federal regulations.
Competency 008: E
The United States Department of
Education defines Assistive Technology as any item, piece of
equipment, or product system,
modified or customized that is used to increase,
maintain or improve the functional
capabilities of a child with a disability.
What is Assistive technology?
What is IDEA?
IDEA is the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, a
federal law that assures students with disabilities
receive free appropriate public
education in the least restrictive
environment.

be assistive, instructional or both, depending on a student’s
instructional and developmental
needs.
