The spark of imagination — where does
it come from? For the Disneyland®
Resort, that spark is ignited by the
Imagineers. Over 50 years ago, when Walt Disney was
planning the theme park of his dreams, he turned to the
most creative people he knew — the artists responsible
for the award-winning animated movies of the Walt
Disney company. He hand selected this group to visualize,
design and build Disneyland® park. Today, the Imagineers
are responsible for every Disney theme park throughout
the world. But we will always remember that it all started
in an orange grove in Southern California.

Could there be a more inspirational
setting than where it all began?
The Disneyland® Hotel is not only
an icon, it has also served as a source
of inspiration to visitors for nearly half
a century. In every aspect of the hotel,
you’ll feel a sense of rich Disney history
that makes this incredibly creative
atmosphere truly legendary.
From our state-of-the-art meeting
facilities to our beautifully appointed
rooms and suites, you will feel inspired.

How can innovation come to life?
Where will new ideas be generated?
When does creativity become reality?
At the Disneyland® Resort, we believe that inspiration can strike at any time. And where you begin your day is just as important as where you end it. That is why our hotels were designed to not only be warm and welcoming, but also to be the most creative, innovative and inspiring settings they can be. When you stay at any one of our hotels, nothing will get in the way of your creativity.
2
Geared to bring out the best in your group’s creativity and imagination, the Disneyland®
Resort offers the Disneyland® Thinking Cap Program presented by the Disney Institute:
• Nurturing a Creative Culture• Framing Up the Opportunities • Innovation: Bringing Creativity to Life
In these and other innovative workshops, your organization will learn to think like Disney’s
world-renowned Imagineers — the true designers and builders of Disneyland® park.
Maybe the most creative group on the planet, the Imagineers are made up of architects,
animators, costume designers and more. Your group will learn firsthand how to utilize
the Imagineers’ unique formula to become more innovative and creative thinkers.
Your guests can also experience one of our exclusive tours, A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps.
Through this inspirational tour your group will experience the Disneyland® theme park
from the perspective of the man who created it.
Inspire. Innovate. Dream.

On October 5, 1955 the Disneyland® Hotel
opened its doors to the public just three
months after the opening of Disneyland®
park. This innovative hotel the Imagineers designed was
like nothing the area had seen before and the crowds
came rolling in. Due to its overwhelming success, within
months the Disneyland® Hotel added another 100 rooms
and started a building boom that would transform Orange
County from a sleepy, distant Los Angeles suburb into a
major business and pleasure destination.

The Imagineers have a history of adding
innovation to the Resort. There is no better
example of this than at the Disneyland®
Hotel. In 1961 , they built an 11-story addition called the
Sierra Tower which became Orange County’s first
high-rise and the nation’s tallest building constructed
by the post-tension, lift-slab method. Then, in 1979 the
Imagineers added the 13-story Bonita Tower which was
not only the tallest structure in Anaheim at the time, but
was the first solar-energy building in the nation.

Dining
Many don’t realize that the Disneyland®
Hotel is host to one of the best steak houses
in Southern California — the elegant and
award-winning Granville’s Steak House. And even fewer people
know how Granville’s got its name. In the spring of 1954, Walt
Disney phoned Texas oil man Jack Wrather and offered him
a long-term lease on the tract of land next door if he would
build a hotel to accommodate out-of-town guests. Although
skeptical about Walt’s vision, Jack agreed. On March 18, 1955,
Jack Wrather and his wife Bonita Granville Wrather officially
broke ground on what soon would become a Disney icon.
The restaurant is named in honor of the daring couple.

Of course, group theme park tickets are available. Let your group experience the creativity and inspiration of Disneyland® park and Disney’s California Adventure™ park located just steps away from all three Disneyland® Resort Hotels.

The Downtown Disney® District encompasses
300,000 square feet and is inspired by
famous European shopping and theatre
districts like Copenhagen’s Strøget and Italy’s Tivoli Gardens.
Adding to the inspiration of this outdoor walking mall, the
Imagineers designed four distinct garden areas. East Garden —
taking visual cues from early 20th century Craftsmen
architecture. Wine Bar District Garden — named for the
vine-covered wine and tapas bar at its center. Center Plaza
Garden — the heart of the Downtown Disney® District with an
eclectic mix of restaurants and show places. And the West
Side Garden — celebrating the Golden Age of Hollywood
movie palaces in an Art Deco Theme.
