General Objective
At the end of the course, the student will be able to develop an
understanding of philosophy, principles, methods and issues, management,
education and research in critical care nursing. Furthermore, this course
will enable them to develop skills and attitude in providing competent
critical care nursing.
Specific Objectives:
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
Describe the concepts and principles of critical care nursing. Communicate effectively with critically ill patients and their family
members.
Perform advance cardiac life support skills. Apply nursing process in caring of critically ill patients. Participate effectively as a member of the health team. Organize and demonstrate skills in management of critical care
nursing services.
Make a plan for organization of critical care units. Conduct research in critical care nursing. Teach and supervise nurses and allied health workers

GUIDELINES TO THE USE OF LOG BOOK
1. Observed procedure: The senior supervisor should assign a staff for the student in
the observation of the procedure
The student should observe the procedure with the guidance ofassigned staff
After completion of the observation student should make a noteof the observed procedure in the activity book.
The student should get the activity book signed by seniorsupervisor and the assigned staff.
The student should get the log book signed by senior supervisor The activity book has to be counter signed by the Centre
Executive.
2. Assisted procedure: The senior supervisor should assign a staff for the student while
assisting of the procedure
The student should assist the procedure with the guidance ofassigned staff
After completion of the procedure student should make a note ofthe assisted procedure in the activity book.

The student should get the activity book signed by seniorsupervisor and the assigned staff.
The student should get the log book signed by seniorsupervisor.

3. Performed procedure: The student should learn the procedure prior to the
demonstration to senior supervisor
The student should perform the procedure under thesupervision of senior supervisor.
After completion of the procedure student should make a note ofthe performed procedure in the activity book.
The student should get the activity book and log book signed bysenior supervisor.
The activity book has to be counter signed by the CentreExecutive.
