NORTH AMERICA
North America has many cultures throughout the continent who have
immigrated from other countries.
The two largest groups of immigrants to come to North America are
Germans and Irish.
Estimated 17.1% or 50,764,352 Americans have German ancestry.
Estimated 11.9% or 36,278,332 Americans have Irish ancestry.
MOTHER’S SIDE OF THE FAMILY

-My mother’s side of the family came from
Germany.
-My great-great grandparents immigrated from
Germany in early 1800’s, which was the first
wave of immigration.
-The first wave of immigration was between
the years of 1600-1820.
-The wave consisted of North West
Europeans, mostly English, French, Dutch,
Germans and African Americans.
-They came and resided in Herman,
Pennsylvania.
After a couple generations, my
grandmother was born in 1928 in the
same city, Herman, Pennsylvania
My grandfather was born in Butler,
Pennsylvania in 1927.

MY FATHER’S SIDE OF THE FAMILY CAME FROM BOTH,
GERMANY AND IRELAND.
THEY CAME TO THE COUNTRY IN 1870’S.
THEY IMMIGRATED INTO THE COUNTRY IN THE SECOND
WAVE OF IMMIGRATION, WHICH IS BETWEEN 1840’S-
1890’S.
THE SECOND WAVE OF IMMIGRATION CONSISTED OF
MOSTLY WEST AND CENTRAL EUROPEANS, GERMANS,
IRISH AND SCANDINAVIANS.
Father’s side of the family…
MY DADS GREAT GRANDFATHER IN
BOISE, IDAHO.
My grandfathers parents were born in Seattle,
Washington.
My grandfather was born in 1930 in Seattle.
My grandmothers parents were born in Boise, Idaho.
My grandmother was born in 1935 in Boise.
My grandfather moved to Boise, Idaho where he met my
grandmother.
WHEN MY MOTHER’S PARENTS MET IN PENNSYLVANIA, THEY WERE THE ONLY
ONES OF THEIR FAMILIES TO MOVE OUT OF THE STATE.
THEY MOVED TO CALIFORNIA IN 1953 FOR WORK OPPORTUNITIES.
MY GRANDMOTHER STAYED HOME WITH THE CHILDREN AND MY GRANDFATHER
WAS A TRUCK DRIVER.
MY GRANDPARENTS HAD FOUR CHILDREN.
THEY RESIDED IN GLENDORA, CALIFORNIA.
MY MOTHERS PARENTS
-My Grandfather had moved from Seattle, Washington to Boise, Idaho in 1949.
-I do not know the reasoning of his move, but he did meet my grandmother there in 1950.
-They married and moved to California.
-They had a son in 1952 and a second son, my dad in 1954.
-They resided in Glendora, California.
MY FATHERS PARENTS
I think it is exciting to learn about my families history and where
we actually came from. To be honest, I have never asked my family the
story behind where we came from and what the reasoning behind the
immigration. I cannot wait to interview my family to find out our history.
