FAMILY PROGRAMS

Each year the Art Gallery of South Australia stages innovative

and engaging family programs, laying the foundation for a strong

and lasting association between children and the visual arts.

These are some of the diverse programs we offer to around

40,000 school aged children who visit us each year :

The School Holiday Art & Craft Program is one of the

Gallery’s most popular activities, giving children the freedom

to exercise their imagination while providing parents with a

high quality activity to entertain their children. These one hour

sessions, guided by expert tutors, are held daily during school

holiday periods and have previously included topics such as: Pop

Goes the Easel - Paint with animated colour and zany images and

Flower Power - Still life painting of Australian fl ora.

Eye Spy Club is our Sunday afternoon program of interactive

tours where little super-sleuths can hunt for clues in works of art.

This special activity is presented twice a month by the fabulous

Eye Spy Detectives.

Family Drop-in-Days are held once a month and encourage

families to enjoy the Gallery together. Children can take part

in free art and craft activities and families may visit special

exhibitions for a discounted admission price.

The Annual Family Fun Day is a great occasion when the

entire Gallery is buzzing with activity. Over a thousand families

turn out each year for a fun afternoon of art and craft, family

trails, music, roving performers, face painting, sausage sizzles,

children’s displays and more.

Eyes On is the free, do-it-yourself Gallery trail for the whole

family to enjoy. Eyes On helps adults visiting the Gallery with

children, offering questions, puzzles, clues and quirky pieces

of information to get you thinking and talking about the ar t

on display.

ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIESSponsorship of any of the activities for children and families not

only allows the Gallery to provide these wonderful activities

for the community, but also offers outstanding benefi ts to the

sponsor, including exceptional marketing and cross promotional

opportunities and exclusive corporate hospitality privileges.

EXHIBITIONS

The Art Gallery of South Australia stages a balanced annual program of between 7 and 10 special exhibitions. The exhibitions program is central to the Gallery’s role in extending visitors’ experience of art and in contributing to national and international art scholarship. Exhibitions are also a highly popular item on the Gallery program attended by around 100,000 people annually. Over the course of a four year exhibitions cycle, the Gallery is able to mount exhibitions which explore art across a diversity of regions, periods, media, art and historical movements including:

• South Australian art • Indigenous art • Colonial Australian art • Modern Australian art • Contemporary Australian art • Asian art• European art • Egyptian art • Decorative Arts: textiles, furniture, glass, metalwork• Photography and Multi-media art• Heritage and Contemporary International art

Exhibitions include those developed entirely by the Art Gallery of South Australia, drawing on strengths in its collection areas, as well as major national and international touring exhibitions organised by the Gallery and other institutions.

Special exhibitions are major drawcards in attracting audiences to the Gallery. They are supported by comprehensive marketing and promotion campaigns. As the sponsor, you will be included in all of these activities, which could include radio, television, outdoor print campaigns, logo association on all supporting collaterals, internal logo association on banners, website, ticketing and much more.

The Gallery has developed a number of exceptional touring exhibitions, which it has toured to other venues in Australia and New Zealand in recent years. In 2004/05 alone, over 100,000 people visited the Art Gallery of South Australia travelling exhibitions in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory.

EXHIBITIONSBy becoming a national Tour Sponsor of an Art Gallery of South

Australia exhibition, the sponsor is able to promote its support

of the visual arts on a grand scale and cater to staff and clients in

other states of Australia. National exhibition tours might travel

to venues in one or a number of capital cities and regional areas

around the country and occasionally overseas.

Exhibition sponsorships also provide exclusive and unique

corporate hospitality benefi ts, providing you and your valuable

clients with money-can’t-buy opportunities to showcase your

involvement. The Gallery will give you and your guests access

to your sponsored exhibition for an after-hours private viewing

with the Director or Exhibition Curator and the award winning

Art Gallery Restaurant is on hand to cater to your every need,

FUNDRAISING

At the heart of the Art Gallery of South Australia is a collection

of 35,000 outstanding works of art. Fundraising and philanthropy

have been an important part of the Gallery’s success since 1881,

and today, 90% of the collection is the result of private donations,

gifts and bequests.

The Gallery has two benefaction groups which stage fundraising

events throughout the year :

The Foundation consists of hundreds of dedicated Gallery

members whose fi nancial contributions help the Gallery to

acquire major works of cultural signifi cance.

Contemporary Collectors is a dynamic group of art lovers

who focus on building the Gallery’s contemporary art collection

while enjoying social and educational events.

Fundraising Events available for sponsorship include:

DinnersThe Foundation’s Annual Gala Fundraising dinner is a truly

magnifi cent affair. Always a memorable occasion, Foundation

dinners vary in format from colourful celebrity chef banquets,

to elegant suppers in the superb surrounds of the historic Elder

Wing. The Contemporary Collectors’ major fundraising vehicle

is their annual Christmas Party; one of the most talked-about

events on Adelaide’s social calendar and a fabulous showcase for

the best of contemporary art, food and culture.

EventsEat Your Art Out events are the centrepiece of the Contemporary

Collectors’ program, giving members coveted access to the homes

of private collectors for an intimate cocktail party several times

a year. Throughout the year the Foundation organises numerous

unveilings, launches, lectures and luncheons to promote its work

to members and to the community.

FUNDRAISING EVENTSToursContemporary Collectors’ members are passionate about

contemporary art and organise interstate and some overseas

tours to view exhibitions, art fairs and collections. Both

benefaction groups also arrange private tours for members

to preview exhibitions or to familiarise themselves with our

collections and deepen their understanding of the visual arts.

Corporate sponsorship of fundraising events ensures that every

dollar donated by our benefactors goes where it is most needed:

towards the purchase of works of art. Event sponsorship raises

your company’s profi le to an infl uential audience and gives you

access to exceptional benefi ts. In recognition of your support,

you will also receive all the privileges of Corporate Membership

including: recognition on the Gallery donors’ board, invitations

to exclusive members’ events and membership discount cards

for your staff.
