Aristotle coined the term "commonsensibles" to describe the ability to share information betweenthe senses. Holmes maintained that "all life is a greatchain, the nature of which is known whenever we are showna single link of it," implying the interconnection betweenwhat is seen, heard, felt and tasted in the world around us.
