How To Make Your Website Load Faster

One of the very first impressions that visitors get off a website when they arrive on to its pages, is the speed with which it takes to load. Although internet service providers have a lot to do with the speed of websites loading of course, they are not the only reason why some websites load slowly, or even worse, load with a lot of errors.

You may not know this, but there are many ways with which you can improve the loading speed of your website. Also, before we even begin to look at ways to improve speed, you need to know that different browsers behave in different ways. In order to know just how fast your website is, make sure that you have tested it out on all the currently popular browsers available. Even if you are using the best servers from a top web hosting service provider such as ServerSpace, it is not the server that determines the speed, as much as it is the way that you are building your pages and posts.

One of the first steps that you should be taking to improve your website’s speed is to make sure that large posts aren’t being displayed in full length on the home page. Not only is this quite annoying for visitors that don’t want to read that particular post and can’t wait to get to the end of it, it is also using too much of your home page space.

Any post that is longer than 1000 characters should be shortened to about 500 characters, and then add a ‘read more’ text at the bottom which will lead the visitors to read the entire post if they wish to do so. If this particular post contains pictures as well, make sure that you are only showing your visitors one picture (or even better no picture), and then let them see the rest in a separate page if they wish to do so.

Scan through the general image of your website and see if there is anything that could be removed. Perhaps there are some moving images, or long texts in the sidebars that are not really needed. Also, you may have installed background music, which is never a good idea even if you aren’t trying to speed up the loading time of your website. These may all seem like little things, but once you put all of them together, they make up an entire space of content that is either helping or disrupting your website from loading quickly. Efficiency is key in every aspect of the word.

Take another look at the pictures that are being displayed on your website. Do they need to be as big as they are? Or could you make them somewhat smaller? You certainly won’t be posting 1000x900 pixel images. They are not only too big and hard to load, but they are also not a pleasant sight on a loaded web page. Make sure to keep your images to the size of around 500 pixels. If it happens to be a HQ images that you are simply dying to show to your visitors, then refer them to a link where the image will open in its full glory on a separate page/tab.

The better you organise the content of your website, the better it will be working. Although the best option when it comes to websites that load fast is a dedicated uk server, which gives you full control, it is not something that everyone can afford. There are simple ways that will increase loading speed, and you should be taking full advantage of them.
