With all this Preparation…
We are ready to conduct the Student Induction Program (SIP) 2021
Let us spend the day in going over ideas of how to go about it
AICTE Student Induction ProgramA Glimpse of Holistic, Value-Based Education
A Small but Crucial Step in the Fulfilment of the Aspirations Articulated in NEP2020
17
Student Induction Program – Context
• New entrants go through years of strenuous preparation and get accustomed to it.
• Often they lose the connection from social life and recreational activities
• On the other hand, higher education, like engineering, demands a personality in all dimensions
The Student Induction Program is designed for a smooth transition
from school, preparation environment to higher education
Bachelor’s ProgramPreparation Induction
Student Activity Cell
For Initial 21 Days
For Remaining 4 Years
20
Objectives of Induction Program
• Becoming familiar with the ethos and culture of the institution
(based on institutional culture and practices)
• Setting a healthy daily routine, creating bonding in batch as well as with faculty members and
other students
• Exposure to a holistic vision of life, developing awareness, sensitivity and understanding of the
complete expanse of living [Individual… Family… Society (Nation…)… Nature…]
• Facilitating new bonds with peers and seniors who accompany them through their college life
and beyond
• Overcoming weaknesses in some essential professional skills
– only for those who need it (e.g. Mathematics, Language proficiency modules)
21
We Recognise there may be many Constraints in Your College
Late joining
Lateral joining
Lack of adequate time for classes
Lack of playgrounds
Lack of faculty with interest or familiarity of art, music, literature, cultural, creative activities…
…
The proposed SIP is keeping the objectives in mind
You have to develop your SIP by creatively handling the constraints you may have

Universal Human Values (UHV) Foundation
Indian Knowledge System (IKS)including local, regional, nationalinternational examplesfocused on wellbeing of all
Nature friendly and human friendly skills and their practice
23
Individual
My value for myself
(eg. ensuring happiness in the self and
health in the body)

My value in the family
(eg. ensuring feeling of relationship and
prosperity)
Society
My value in the society
(eg. to participate in social systems for
justice, peace and harmony)
Nature/Existence
My value in nature/existence
(eg. mutual fulfilment with rest of nature)
Universal Human Values (UHV)
UHV content is:
• Universal
• Rational
• Verifiable
• All Encompassing
• Leading to Harmony
25
Universal Approach
All the SIP activities (modules) are based on generic and universal principles
Local, regional, national and international examples are taken so that students can relate them to their day
to day life
For example, module 2 is about “physical health and related activities”. In this, we will be talking about “holistic
human health” which is generic and universal. To exemplify this, we may take the example of Ayurved.
For example: We want to live with fulfilment as a society. This part is common, universal. To exemplify this, we
may expose students to traditional Indian culture and philosophy as well as contemporary western culture
In this way:
○ It will help in connecting the basic principles through specific examples
○ It will help the student to see and appreciate various cultures,
to see the commonality amongst them
○ It will help to evaluate any specific example, system or culture, with a view to fill the gaps, rather
than to criticise or reject it. Further, we can also be mutually enriching for other cultures
26
Solution Centric Approach
The world today has become a mixture of various cultures
In India, we can see
▪ Urban / City culture Western culture
▪ Liberal culture Movie/Internet culture
▪ Traditional rural Indian culture
▪ and so many others
Today, the problem is that one culture tends to compare with other cultures and be opposed to
them. This is because their basic assumptions and therefore thoughts are different. Even though
there are commonalities at the core, the conflict is at the level of expression and details
With this situation, it is imperative to
▪ Appreciate the different approaches and achievements
(to whatever extent a culture has realised the basic human values of truth, love and compassion at the core)
▪ Be complimentary, help to fill the gaps, rather than to compare, criticise or reject
27
Indian Knowledge System (IKS) – A good example of Human Thought, Culture
India developed its knowledge system, tested it through practice,
verified and improved it over thousands of years
As a result, the Indian Knowledge System is founded on
the ‘wellbeing of all’
It is based on a deep understanding of human being
as well as of the underlying harmony in nature and the entire existence

Volunteering by Senior Students- Welcome New Students
• Revival of volunteerism
• Seniors helping juniors
• No designations and labels
• Huge strength
• Without the students volunteers- not possible!
• Entire Creative Arts venues are taken care by students
• A volunteer for each UHV class- student mentor
• Special Note: Challenging because of existing group-ism and electioneering related
issues. Team formed with extreme care.
• WhatsApp groups- moderated by Faculty coordinators- daily pictures uploaded- session-wise
• This model can be replicated for regular College Festivals as well.
-Perspective changed from money-centric to larger goal of happiness
-Lost craze for gadgets- realized their value
- Able to live well with roommate of other region
-Washing own clothes made me feel grateful towards my mother
-First time ever speaking in front of large group with confidence
-After the childhood, this is the first time I am playing with clay
