CONNECTIONS JUNE 2019VOL. 7 NO. 6
NHPBS.ORG | 603-868-1100 | [email protected]
On any given day, you will find NHPBS President and CEO, Peter Frid driving along the beautiful roads of New Hampshire to meet with community leaders about an upcoming project or partnership. That’s the fun part of his job. His other more challenging work is asking people to support the Granite State’s only locally owned and operated television station. But he finds it all rewarding.
His passion for the people and places of New Hampshire is contagious. He returns from his visits with pages of notes about important issues facing businesses and communities across the state - and lots of ideas about programs NHPBS could produce to help address them. And his staff is eager to assist.
Every Wednesday you will find Peter on the streets of Concord — or in his office right across from the State House — meeting and greeting and hearing about ways public media has impacted how people view the world. “It’s transformative,” he says.
Peter adds, “So many people share their stories about how something they watched on NHPBS or online changed their lives. When you watch any of the programs we offer on our five channels, you learn something or feel something new.
People tell me watching a program like
WINDOWS TO THE WILD with host Willem Lange and his friend Tom Ryan as they take a walk in the woods with their canine companions is so much more than that. When the two connect with nature and begin to share stories of overcoming grief and life’s challenges, people relate to their stories on a very deep level.”
No matter what you watch on NHPBS, our programs are more than entertainment. They expand perspectives and illuminate the truth. Our children’s programming teaches more than the ABC’s.
But it comes at a cost. “We stretch every dollar invested in programming to produce and acquire quality, trusted content. Every June — the end of our fiscal year — we look to finish strong, because we’re planning for another year of extraordinary programs, events and engagement opportunities,” says Peter.
“In July, we’ll celebrate 60 years of service to the great state of New Hampshire and 60 years of support from viewers like you! With your continued help, we’ll be able to deliver another year of trusted, engaging and insightful programming for everyone. We’re on this road together, and that’s what makes us strong.”
TOGETHER WE SUCCEED

NHPBS DELIVERS NEW BRITISH COMEDIES
Members of the NHPBS BritWit Club have been clamoring for new comedies, and here they are -- two new Brit Coms that will make you laugh out loud!
In HOLD THE SUNSET, Edith (Alison Steadman) and Phil (John Cleese) are retired and in love. When she finally agrees to marry him, they’re ready to move to a place in the sun. That is, until Edith’s son Rog-er crashes back into their lives with a whole host of problems. HOLD THE SUNSET starts Tuesday, June 18 at 8 PM on NHPBS Explore and Friday, June 21 at 8 PM on NHPBS.
The laughs continue with MUM, another new British comedy starring Lesley Manville. MUM is a family comedy seen through the eyes of Cathy, a mother in her late fifties who finds herself at a milestone in life after the death of her husband.
Over the course of one year, Cathy navigates the everyday realities of widowhood alongside the good intentions of her lovably baffling family. MUM is the story of a woman
rediscovering herself and maybe finding love a second time around. Tune into MUM Tuesday, June 18 at 8:30 PM on NHPBS Explore and Friday, June 21 at 8:30 PM on NHPBS.
