Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture is dedicated to the design of high-performance architecture in a wide range of typology and scale, from low- and mid-rise residential, commercial and cultural buildings to mixed-use supertall towers and new cities. The office uses a holistic, integrated design approach that explores symbiotic relationships with the natural environment. AS+GG is currently working on projects for clients in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, China, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Canada and the United States. The partnership was founded in 2006 by Adrian Smith, Gordon Gill and Robert Forest.

As a third year Interior Design student from University of Cincinnati, I appreciate Arian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture offered me the intern position with the Interior Group in fall 2011. It is my honor to work with the team once again within the same year, returning to AS+GG is such a significant mile stone in my professional design career.

Kellogg School of Management- A New Home For Kellogg

The new home for the Kellogg School of Management will reinforce and advance the school’s position as a global leader, a true international center and a place that inspires and cultivates the business leaders of tomorrow. Kellogg is known worldwide as a leader within business and academic communities, and a pioneer of collaborative learning. The school’s new global hub will reflect its leadership within these fields in every way: from stunning architecture to innovative integrations of technology to spaces that allow for new kinds of interaction.

ALLEN CENTER

Our programming approach embraces the idea of overlap, flexibility and modular systems as central planning strategies. This overlap allows for spaces to have multiple functions, encouraging the blurring of boundaries between program spaces to create a fluid, efficient and flexible environment. As a result, no space in the building is truly single-use. Circulation space becomes instead a “connective tissue” that connects program areas and functions as a gathering space for convening “conversations that matter.”

The ground floor is accessible and open to the five points of transparency, without compromise to security. At the ground level, the collaborative public square allows all visitors and students to be easily oriented to all program elements and spaces throughout the building. Student amenities and support spaces are organized throughout the building to promote interaction with faculty.

03Competition Kellogg School of Management

The design introduces the idea of a donor’s room, adjacent to the fifth floor terrace. This space can be utilized by the school or the university, for formal events. This and the atrium space can also be programmed for community use as a potential source for revenue generation.

The top floor, Level Five, is filled with light and offers stunning views through the central atrium and out to the lake. A Donors Club, flanked by two prefunction spaces, connects to a lush exterior garden terrace with spectacular views of campus and downtown Chicago. Additional rest rooms, pantry and a service elevator support this space. Its position and views will make it a popular destination for all types of functions.Faculty offices, with all the same qualities as seen on floors two, three and four fill the remainder of the floor.

FLEXIBLE ADMIN OFFICES The flexible administrative offices can house between two and four administrative staff, allowing for meetings to happen within the space as needed. These offices have the ability to be flexible and extend out into the collaborative space.

FACULTY OFFICES

Faculty offices are designed to be generous, comfortable environments. They feature stunning views of the lake and surrounding campus and lots of natural light. Furniture is flexible and can be arranged to hold small meetings if desired. Generous amounts of storage and lots of work surfaces are also provided. Finally, a glass detail at the window wall allows for expanded views.

Tianjin Vantone- New Headquarters

Construction is scheduled to begin later this year on the project, which is being designed for LEED Platinum or Gold certification. Vantone Center will house the Tianjin offices of Beijing Vantone Real Estate Co., Ltd., a leading developer of sustainable residential and "green office" buildings in China, along with other commercial tenants. The project consists of 64,000 square meters of above-grade Class A office and high-end retail space, along with an additional 30,000 square meters of below-grade retail and parking. The building also features a soaring, 27-meter-tall private club for building tenants at its top.

The tower’s elegantly twisting, faceted form signifies the rising importance of Tianjin, while the undulating pattern of the cladding of the north and south facades evokes both the rippling surface of the Haihe River, two blocks to the east, and the region’s tradition of bamboo weaving. The south façade provides stunning views of the Tianjin business district’s planned central park; a sunken garden at the base of the building will provide an underground connection to the park and its planned subterranean retail complex. The two-story, high-end retail podium on the north side of the building complements the area’s bustling shopping district and offers a handsome amenity on its publicly accessible green roof and restaurant terraces

Wuhan Greenland Center3-6/2011 10/2011

The Wuhan Greenland Center will likely be China's tallest building, when completed in 2016. The tower will be comprised of offices, luxury apartments and condominiums, a  five-star hotel, and a private club with spectacular views at the tower's penthouse level.

Wuhan Greenland Center features a uniquely streamlined form that combines three key shaping concepts—a tapered body, softly rounded corners and a domed top—to reduce wind resistance and vortex action that builds up around supertall towers. The building’s extremely effi cient aerodynamic performance will allow it to minimize the amount of structural material (and the associated embodied carbon) needed for construction.
