For each department thrust areas of research were identified . Further , Research work group members were assigned for each department to coordinate the research activities of the department viz. Thrust areas. In this context, Dr. P.Ramasamy , Director ,Research centre , SSN College of Engineering , Chennai was invited on 02-03-2016 for the promotion of Research campus . Dr.P.Ramasamy had an interaction meeting with Chairman, HoDs , Research work group and students . He discussed the various outcomes of research and funding agencies for the research projects. Also, he emphasised the seed money grant to the faculty and students from the management funds so that research work will be initiated by the large group of faculty and students. This would bring a research culture and environment to do research in the campus. Also, a student research centre is started (RE) in this period to promote students research in the campus.

Criterion – V 5. Student Support and Progression

5.1 Contribution of IQAC in enhancing awareness about Student Support Services

This activity is being taken care off by the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA) of the Institution.

• The students and parents are made aware of the various student support services

offered by the Institution on the first day they come into the campus, through a

programme, Swagatham.

• The first year students are made aware of the various processes and systems in the

campus through a programme, Engineering Immersion Boot Camp (EIBC).

• There is a ward counsellor system where-in for about 15 students there will be a

faculty ward counsellor who will interact regularly with those students. They will

be constantly informing to the students about the student support services. The

ward counsellor can refer a student to the student counsellor if needed.

• The Resident Tutors in the hostels regularly meet the hostel inmates and create

awareness on various student support services.

• Booklets (Know your KCT, Kalloori Kannottam) containing useful information

about the Institution is distributed to the students.

• Email, SMS, Institution website (kct.ac.in), Facebook (life@kct), are all used for

effective communication with the students in making them aware of the various

student support services from time to time

7 Information Technology

Every 20 students is assigned to a mentor. As a first stage individual students are asked to fill the Google forms with defined questionnaire by getting their personal and academic details. Students are met along with their parents to get a clear picture of their behavioural pattern and their academic categories. Then psychometric test is conducted by the expert team to know about the ability of students and categorize the students with the combined result of profiling and psychometric test result.

6.3.4 Research and Development R&D activities include academic research in a sustained manner leading to a PhD degree, preparation, review and submission of research proposals to funding agencies and publication of research findings in journals and conference proceedings. Also efforts are made to involve in collaborative research in emerging fields. During the above period, an MoU has been signed with ARA Institute of Technology, New Zealand for the collaborative research in the area of CFD, Engine Simulation and motor racing. MoU with ARA includes faculty exchange and student internships. In the same period MoU signed with Tel Aviv University, Israel for the collaborative research, faculty exchange and student internships. While researches pursued by a large number of faculty members are supported with incentives, younger faculty members are encouraged to pursue research with registration for Ph.D. During this year 130 faculty are involved in their PhD programme. During this period, 22 PhD degree has been awarded to faculty by Anna University, Chennai. Faculty members and students are sponsored to attend the conferences and symposium abroad. Students of various departments have undergone internships at foreign universities. Faculty members visited foreign universities for a period of two weeks as a part of the exchange programme. Further, faculty from foreign universities visited and delivered lectures and coordinated training programme in our institute to faculty and students

During this period, six projects are approved by various funding agencies for the total amount of Rs 112.5 lakhs. Periodic reviews are held to ensure timely and satisfactory completion of these projects. Apart from government agencies faculty members are involved with private industries sponsored research in the area of welding, valve design, corrosion to Cameron Manufacturing Industry, Coimbatore involving UG and PG students. Research work related to blower used in textile mills and synchronous motor design to M/s Lakshmi Electrical Drives Limited is being carried out in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Departments.

Management has sanctioned 24 projects with the grant of 39 lakhs during Phase I for investigative research for the period are under progress . They have enabled the faculty members put forward proposals for more substantial research projects sponsored by funding agencies belonging to Government of India and other agencies. Students research initiative motivated by the management with sanctioned grant of Rs 20 lakhs during the year 2016-17(Phase I). Further, students are encouraged to do innovative projects at iQube . Students carrying out automotive design vehicles and participating national events like SAE SUPRA and BAJA and win prizes. Faculty members published their research findings in journals and conference proceedings.

Library subscribed 12 online packages cost of nearly 30 lakhs for academic development and research. All the online resources are campus wide access facility including hostels. 10 desktop systems and 10 system space provided for online reference. Separate section for IAS & other competitive exam purpose equipped with latest reference books

6.3.7 Faculty and Staff recruitment

• Vacancies are identified with respect to the cadre ratio. • Advertisements are published in news papers and official website regarding the vacancies. • Online tests are conducted to shortlist the candidates. There are two stages in the online test. Stage

one marks of all candidates appeared for test are taken and a cut-off mark is decided by the principal and stage two marks are evaluated for candidates above the cut-off marks.

• The short listed candidates who are above the cut-off mark are called for interview through mail and phone communication.

• The interview panel consists of HOD of Concern and other departments, Inter disciplinary teaching faculty, External academic expert, Alumni and HR.

• Candidates will be further shortlisted to meet the Principal and then the Joint correspondent. • Candidates selected are appointed in probation basis, offer letter and appointment orders are issued

to them. • Induction Programme is conducted for the employees. • Promotions given to internal faculty once in a year based on the need in the department. Members

who satisfy the eligibility criteria are assessed and based on their performance they will be promoted.

• Also employees are paid referral bonus for their reference towards sourcing of candidates.

� Parents were allowed to meet the teachers for their wards attendance and performance. � The parents gave feedback about academic as well as co-curricular activities and also

appreciated teacher ward system. Every semester parents meeting are organized in the department to discuss about student’s

performance and their carrier prospects. Parents are involved as a stakeholder in various academic

activities.
