Furniture Design Notes

The use of freestanding furniture could have the potential to appear urban in character and also to create new noticeable objects / clutter in the landscape. It is therefore intention to integrate simple and minimal furniture functions into the proposed curved drystone shelter walls as follows:

• Simple plain timber bench seating to inside of drystone retaining wall

• Integrated timber covered bins to inside of walls• Bespoke rock-slots set into the wall to provide cycle parking

(with anchor lock points)• Potential to incorporate integrated interpretation/ map/ text

DeckingThe proposed access path to the landmark will need to cross a narrow area of wet marsh, therefore a short span of recycled plastic decking in a weathered finish is proposed in order to provide a maintenance-free and non-slip crossing point with a 2.5m width to match the access path.

SignageWaymarkers will be provided at low level, using text carved into site-won boulders. A larger boulder may be selected to mark the site entrance with carved lettering. It is proposed that the final details will be developed with the artist.
