What is Twitter?
• Online social networking service with over 270 million active users.
• Created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, Biz Stone and Noah Glass.
• Enables users to send and read short 140-character messages called "tweets“.
• Users can group posts together by topic or type by using hashtags – words or
phrases prefixed with a "#" sign.
• A word, phrase or topic that is tagged at a greater rate than others is said to be a
"trending topic".

• What is a Tweet?• The definition from Twitter’s FAQ:
• A Tweet is an expression of a moment or idea.
• It can contain text, photos, and videos.
• Millions of Tweets are shared in real time, everyday.
• Other notes of a Tweet• Tweets are only 140 characters long.• Tweets can include links and
Hashtags.• Think of it as a Facebook status.

• What is a Twitter Handle?• It is how tweeters identify you.• It is how someone can talk/message
you.• Can be a Real Person, Company,
Fictional Character, or Whatever!
• Examples• The person tweeting
• @TayChapman• Those mentioned in the tweet

How to Use Twitter
• What is a #Hashtag?• A Hashtag (#) is a way to join in a
conversation by adding a topic to the tweet.• Hashtags can be 1-139 Characters
long.• Example)
• My tweet used the #MKT3313• When searching #MKT3313, my
tweet was listed with tweets using the same hashtag.• Including tweets from @kelsielee11
& @heatherfrycpa.
How to Use Twitter
• What is a Retweet?• A Retweet is a way to show others
you liked what another person tweeted by posting it on your Twitter page.
• You can just Retweet or do a Quote Retweet by adding your thoughts to the tweet.
• Think of it as the original Facebook Share button.
• Example)• I tweeted & @adamkissinger shared
my tweet by Retweeting it.

• What is a Favorite?• A Favorite is a way to let the
Tweeter know that you liked the tweet.• Think of it as a Facebook Like.• Favorites do not show up on your
own Twitter page.• Example)
• @disneywords tweeted a quote from Walt Disney.

• How Does One Have A Conversation?• Really Simple!• Start a Tweet off with the Twitter
Handle of the person you want to talk to.• When you receive a notification
that someone mentioned you in a tweet: Just hit the Reply button & Tweet back!

Hit The Follow Button.• When You Follow Someone; The Tweets
they post will show up on your Twitter Feed.• Think of the Twitter Feed like the Facebook
News Feed.• Example)

Verification
• A “verified” account validates the identity of the person or company that owns the account in an attempt to prevent impersonation.
• A small blue checkmark by the top-right corner of a user’s page, or next to the username
• Twitter assigns the checkmark, most commonly to of notable people in politics, music, movies, business, sports and journalism.
