NATIONAL VETERAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
WHO WE ARE
The National Veterans Business Development Council (NVBDC) is a nonprofit 501c3 organization offering veteran business third-party private sector
certification in the United States.
NATIONAL VETERAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
BACKGROUND
• In 2010, the federal government spent more than $500B • 3% ($15B) mandated to veteran owned businesses • 3% of the money spent by corporate America exceeds $80 billion each year
NATIONAL VETERAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
• There are 22 million Veterans in America, 3 million Veteran Business Owners
What Exists Today?
• The Government controlled Center for Veteran Enterprise (CVE) does not verify MEDIUM or LARGE companies, thereby denying them a formal Veteran Business recognition.
• This prevents some of the most successful businesses, including Minority and Women Owned businesses that are also Veteran owned, from being certified as Veteran owned. The NVBDC will certify all Veteran Businesses.
• The Veterans Affairs' Execu3ve Director, Small and Veteran Business Programs -‐ Office of Small & Disadvantaged Business U3liza3on has announced that; his department is working with the NVBDC to match strategic development initiatives and provide the Certified Veteran Owned business with opportunities as suppliers to American Industry • The NVBDC will provide these services to our Veteran Owned businesses
and work with Industry to support their strategic initiatives by following the BDR Supplier Diversity Best Practices manual.
NATIONAL VETERAN BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
NVBDC OBJECTIVES • Create a "gold standard" certification program to ensure that credible documentation exists of a business' Veteran status, ownership and control.
• Build and maintain a searchable database and a corporate membership program
• Launch a multi portal website
• Promote Supplier Diversity
• Secure corporate funding to support the NVBDC and programming costs

• Corporations who have established Supplier Diversity programs desire to demonstrate leadership and commitment to the cause of VOB’s/SDVOB’s and historically underutilized suppliers.
• If they don’t have VOB/SDVOB as a part of Supplier Diversity, ask them to add to their Purchasing considerations and supplier base!!!
• They understand and respect the value proposition that certified diverse suppliers bring to their organization.
• Seek out Diversity Management as key source to find and work with
purchasing chain and their Tier Suppliers for subcontracting efforts.
SUPPLIER DIVERSITY CONSIDERATIONS
Supplier Diversity Considerations • It is your job to add value to the Corporation Supplier Chain by doing
the job on time, on budget and meeting all quality standards.
• Expect nothing but an opportunity because you are a VOB or SDVOB and remember you represent all of us, every time.
• Form teams, work as a sub, learn the Corporate culture, learn their best practices policies and help your fellow VOB/SDVOB to grow once you’re secure.
• Honor and respect the Supplier Diversity team for their leadership, they are our voice within their Corporations and many are the “gate keepers” to Purchasing. Give them a reason to help VOB/SDVOB’s.
