Paul said the Military Memorial Day Prayer:
O God, who by your grace thy people gain courage.. We lift our hearts in gratitude for all
who lived and were a part of our life. O God, help us to prize carefully those gifts they
gave and passed unto others. Each one, whether a military member, family member or civil
servant served in sacrifice. They gave so we all may have the freedom of religion, social, po-
litical and economic liberty we all greatly enjoy in this good land. O God, continue to grant us
the gift we all enjoy and great faith, that we who also served, will continue to be true and
loyal as those who are gone were true and loyal. O God, we pray that you grant strength and
comfort to their family and friends and that we to be strengthen and in the faith of thy Holy
Name will someday be victors in thine eyes. We pray and close in Jesus Name....AMEN

There are women MIAs, POWs, and KIAs in an service history book at Ft. Lee Army Veteran’s

men may have a VA claim for being exposed to these poisons.

“HOWDY DUTY” STORY THE CHUTE THAT SAVED A LIFE BY BOB BEABOUT, LTC, COANG(Retired)
The next time you visit Wings Over The Rockies Museum, observe the orange
parachute over the entrance to the Colorado Air Guard exhibit. That is the para-
chute that saved the life of LtCol. Bob Beabout. LtCol. Beabout is a member of
Colorado’s Group One, Black Sheep squadron.
LtCol. Beabout was an A7-D pilot with the 140th Fighter Wing of the Colo-
rado Air Guard, based at Buckley Air Force Base. The occasion was a three
plane, air combat maneuvering exercise, over eastern Colorado, in December,
1976.
At the completion of the second engagement, LtCol. Beabout observed a yel-
low caution light on the instrument panel. It indicated a malfunction in the engine
oil system. That was followed by the oil pressure indicator dropping to “0” and
the beginning of an engine vibration. LtCol. Beabout turned his A7 toward Denver
and went through the emergency check list procedures with his wingman. Shortly
after that the wing man reported metal particles and flames exiting the jet ex-
haust. Almost immediately the engine seized and the A7 started to make a slow,
uncontrolled nose down right roll. It was time to eject!
The ejection went perfectly, at about 9,000 feet above the Colorado plains.
LtCol Beabout came down in the ditch, along I-70, about five miles east of Limon,
Colorado. He was unhurt and did a few jumping arm waves as the wingman buzzed
him. The wingman acknowledged with a wing rock and headed for home.
Before LtCol. Beabout could get his chute rolled up, a State Patrol Officer
pulled up to offer assistance. The Officer said that the crash had been report-
ed, in an open field, five miles north of Limon, and no one on the ground was in-
jured. LtCol Beabout loaded the parachute into the police car and they headed
for the crash site.
There was already a good sized crowd at the crash site and most were
amazed to see the pilot walking up to look at the hole in the ground. Some more
excitement followed as an Army Guard Huey chopper landed in an adjacent field.
The chopper dropped off some troops to guard the crash site, then departed to
return LtCol Beabout to Buckley.
LtCol Beabout has been a Civil Air Patrol member for thirteen years. During
that time he has participated in numerous search and rescue missions and exercis-
es. He was also very active with the Colorado Cadet Powered flight Activity. He
reports that his involvement with CAP has been very rewarding, following his re-
tirement as a Continental Airlines Captain.
