Hello! `I hope everyone’s enjoying being back! Thank you guys for helping spread the word about rush! We’re super excited about our beautiful new baby penguins! The Executive Board is SO excited for this year, and as you can see by the dates on the right, there will be plenty to do! Please let me know if I can ever help you out with anything!
Penguin Love, `Michele
AWESOME ALUM
spending time with our two cats. I wish everyone the very best and enjoy reading the spotlight every
weekend! I attached a few pictures of Robert and I and the proposal! The
M&Ms were in a jewelry box that he gave me the night before our 2 year
anniversary. They read "Will you marry me Kara?" Very sweet!!
After spending four years in South Dakota attending graduate school, I am now living in Biloxi, MS with my fiance, Robert Boyer. We are getting
married on January 15, 2011 in Athens, GA and cannot wait for the
date to get here! I am working at VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care
System as the staff psychologist for the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder-
Intensive Outpatient Program (PTSD-IOP). I work specifically with
Veterans diagnosed with PTSD due to combat trauma. It keeps me very busy but it is tons of fun and quite
challenging! There is never a boring day at the office for me. Robert and I enjoy visiting the local sites and

Dear Gamma Sig Ladies,
I miss you all dearly and wish I was closer so I could see you all more often.
The past year has been a whirlwind. This past February I moved to north
west Georgia to a small town just south of Rome called Cedartown. I moved
here to teach at Murphy-Harpst Children Center (Harpst Academy). The
school is a residential behavioral institution for children who are in custody
of the state. The majority of the kids receive special education services and
cannot be in a public setting because of their severe behavior issues. From
Feb. to June I was the supplemental instructor and I worked with
Elementary and Middle school students who needed extra help with math
and reading. This school year I am THE elementary teacher. I teach all of the
elementary students and all subjects. I currently have 3rd, 4th, and 5th
grade students (no younger ones yet). And this year I will also be the Art
Teacher for the entire Academy (elementary art, middle school art, and high
school art). And our school has never had a mascot or school colors, so the
superintendent approved my design for a school mascot. We are now the
Harpst Academy Mustangs and our school colors are black and silver. I am
going to have a contest to let the students name the mascot. (We have horse
therapy for the students and this is why we chose a horse mascot.)
I love my job so much! It can be very difficult but it's worth it. These kids all
have a special place in my heart.
Also, on the 23rd of this month I will be buying my first house!!!!! I'm super
excited! I am attaching a picture for you to see. It's a 2 bed and 1.5 bath
house with hardwood floors and a giant kitchen. I can't wait to get in the
place and start painting! I have big decorating plans for that kitchen.
I am so proud of all of you for all that you've accomplished with Gamma Sig.
It's so amazing to see the videos you talented ladies have put together to
spread the word of GSS. My school actually has college student volunteers
that come for spring break to work around campus and play with the kids.
We should work together and maybe you ladies could plan an alternative
spring break and come here! These kids would greatly benefit from your
good hearts and smiling faces!
I hope you are all having a wonderful fall semester thus far. Best wishes for
Rush this year! I know you will accomplish all you have set forth to do. Keep
up the amazing work ladies!
Much love,
Holly Turner
