Intelligent Liquid Sensing
When to use cLLD & pLLD
Bubbles on liquid surface Use pLLD to find the liquid
surface cLLD could be triggered by the
bubbles
Aqueous layer under organic layer Use pLLD to find the non-
conductive organic layer Use cLLD to find the conductive
aqueous layer

Intelligent Liquid Sensing
With ADC – the pressure increase inside the channel is measured and the piston moved to compensate.
Anti-Droplet Control
Without ADC – high vapour pressure of volatile liquid results in a pressure increase in the tip forcing the liquid out.

Intelligent Liquid Sensing
Prevent droplets on tips when pipetting highly volatile liquids
This is a standard feature in VENUS

Intelligent Liquid Sensing
The conductive signal after aspiration is measured. gap between tip and liquid - the capacitance
signal will vanish. clot - it bridges the gap and the signal remains,
resulting in an error message

Monitored Air Displacement
Conditions: Black / clear tips Clean tips, aspirate only All channels Lower limit varies but >10µl MAD has only been optimised for
aqueous liquids
MAD can be switched on for individual aspiration steps in a method
The pressure threshold can be varied to detect whether each pipetting step was successful

Intelligent Liquid Sensing
Total Aspiration and Dispense Monitoring
TADM increases the safety and robustness of pipetting processes by recording and monitoring pressure throughout the pipetting cycle. It’s main use in in clinical settings where a permanent record showing correct pipetting of every sample is needed.
Conditions: Black / clear tips Clean tips All channels 96 TADM head Requires additional

Intelligent Liquid Sensing
Aspirate Dispense
Total Aspiration and Dispense Monitoring
The user sets both TADM tolerance bands and the required response if they are crossed
Bands are set , using test data, for every liquid, tip type and volume used
