Seattle’s Sleepless
Day at the Races
On Saturday Sept 13th, following the meeting, 14 Sleepless members headed for Auburn Downs. The sun was out, the mountain was beautiful and the track conditions were fast. What a perfect day to
relax, visit, and bet on those graceful thoroughbreds. The winner for going home with the money she came with was Sharon Solum. The rest of us wined and dined; whined about losing our bets, dined on beer, hotdogs, salads, and ice cream. Not a bad day in any case. Hope you can join us next time. By Melody Albertson
One of our favorite pastimes - potlucks.

On Sept 5th a tour of the Origami exhibit at the Bellevue Art Museum was led by Docent and Sleepless member Joyce Wampler. Following we went to the Cypress Lounge and met up with other members. Thanks to Joyce for hosting.
A group ventured to Ste. Michelle Winery on Sept 12th to see Frankie Vallie. This 81 yr old performer put on a great concert with his new songs along with all the oldies. The pre-party started early about 4:00pm. Waiting in line in your lawn chairs is part of the adventure.
This group gathered at Mary Walmar’s home on Sept 20th to share food, drink and conversation.

The Board is pleased to have three terrific
candidates running for Directors positions for the
2015 Board.
Elaine Dunn: Now that I am retired I have more time
to give back to the club in appreciation for all the
friends I have made and fun and adventures that I have
had over the years.
I feel that I am qualified to serve on the Sleepless
Board for the following reasons:
As a career human resource professional for many
years, I was very successful in leading, training,
counseling, and motivating employees; also, created
activities, budgeted and networked with a variety of
professionals and organizations.
Joining Seattle’s Sleepless in January 1996, I became
involved in many of our fun events and served on the
Board for 3 years as Membership Chairperson during a
period when our membership was 2 to 3 times as large
as it is now.
I have enjoyed being an MC for a number of years and
frequently present fun activities for the Saturday
morning group.
Additionally, I am currently serving on the Social
Committee and have helped with various functions at
Sleepless dances/Christmas parties, travel, and
planned celebrations and events. This year two of the
activities that I sponsored were Rainbow Run Putt Putt
and a tour of Theo‘s Chocolate factory.
Jim Eling: I am originally from St. Paul and have
lived in Washington since the early 1950's. I graduated
from Stadium High School, Tacoma in 1958 and then
onto Central Washington State College.
I moved to Seattle in 1963, worked for Boeing five
times and then eventually got into sales selling
Computer Products for 23 years. I retired in 2002. I
then travelled around the country in a motor
home from 2006 until July of 2012. I renewed my
membership in 2012.
I was one of the original members of Seattle Sleepless
and Kirkland Koffee Singles.
Jackie Roberts: I grew up in North Dakota. After
graduating from North Dakota State University
I married and moved to the Seattle area.
For 27 1/2 years I work for the King County District
Court System as Court Administrator of the Issaquah
Division.
I have been active in many organizations including
Kiwanis, S'no Jokes Ski Club, and Seattle Sleepless.
I was appointed to the Sleepless Board in 2007. I was
President in 2008, 2009, 2010. I was again elected to
the Board for 2013 and 2014. I have been Vice
President for those two years.
I enjoy organizing events and fun things for people,
including local activities and also trips to far-away
places on cruise ships.
I am very interested in seeing this club continue and
prosper.
Electronic voting begins on October 16 and
ends midnight on October 31st.
