“What you foresee is what you get”
Mattias BergströmJohan Bergström
Innovation workshop
Why?• The aim is to:
– Create networking, collaboration and innovation in the space industry
– Create ideas on how to move forward in different interest areas for You, the participants of the conference.
– Create groups of people dedicated to take on the identified challenges within the interest area
What?
• A four hour facilitated workshop • Work together in teams of 4-5 people in a structured process.• Create ideas that engage others outside the team.
How?
• Workshop process has three stages – NOW. – WOW! – HOW?
• We will facilitate you throughout the workshop. • Presentation on canvas board for other groups to see, get inspired
by and sign up for the future.
• Time schedule – 8.00-13.00 (with fika on the fly after 9.30 and walkaround lunch)
Rules of the ”game”
• Play the game– Go with the flow
• Be present– In body and mind
• Be open minded– Say yes
• Be positive– Say And (not But)
• Contribute– To the team & To the topic
• Turn on your empathy– Listen, Be curious & Ask questions
Subjects from SIF 2
• Satellite management systems- Solutions to meet the demand of ”new” customers within the satellite business (antenna parks, ground stations)- We need to handle ”Big Data”- Automation- Low latency- Orbit debris mitigation (ex. de-orbit capability)- Ground segment suitable for low cost nanosatellite missions (e.g. network of ground stations, autonomous operation…..)- Software Defined Radio: Both for ground communication and for Inter-Satellite Links- Cost-efficient solutions for ground segment increasingly important- High speed communication links (both to ground and ISL) and ”ad-hoc” networking
Subjects from SIF 2
• Science services – more science to the scientists!- How can we contribute to Scientific projects all over the world?- technical tests- robotic play ground- support the science community (instruments, experiments, subsystems for rockets)
Subjects from SIF 2
• launch satellites into orbit- Dedicated, standardized and regular European launch opportunities- Combine launches
Subjects from SIF 2
• Design satellite platforms- Use of COTS / PEM microcircuits for very low cost projects - Nanosatellites (educational purposes, testing of new techniques in space)
Subjects from SIF 2
• Instrument design- Terahertz components, signal processing, antenna systems.- Thermal solutions and composite structures.- Optical test and verification methods- Electro-chemical processes- High resolution sensors (primarily for earth observation)- Excellent scientific performance - better than the competitors- High reliability- Low mass / small volume- Low power consumption- Ability to meet all mission requirements: Functional, Mechanical, Electrical / EMI, Thermal, Radiation
Subjects from SIF 2
• Telecommunication- onboard GNSS navigation- Co-location of several satellites within the same operational slot- A strong need to develop strategies for autonomous co-location of telecommunications satellites with on-board GNSS and Electric Propulsion Clear trend towards S-band and X-band
Subjects from SIF 2
• Formation flying- Increasing demand for Inter-Satellite links (formation flying or constellations)- multi-spacecraft formation- All these three areas are strongly interrelated and treat problems that will be necessary to tackle for any future Multi-Spacecraft application: How will the formation be controlled? How can the participants cooperate in the best way? How is this done while maintaining mission safety?
Subjects from SIF 2
• Future Product Targets- Reduced product cost - Reduced weight - Reduced development time - Improved performance
Subjects from SIF 2
• Technology Challenges - Manufacturing methods − Additive manufacturing (AM), welding, milling.. - Process simulation − AM, welding, forming… - Non-destructive testing/ inspection - Automation − Integrated manufacturing and inspection - New materials − High grade aluminium, stainless steel, composites - Design methods − Performance, robustness, validation/verification/qualification - Suppliers − Precision casting, sheet metal forming, forging…
Subjects from SIF 2
• Propulsion- Several low to moderate delta-V systems are being developed, some IODs performed- Development of high delta-V capability systems are needed- Platforms with electric propulsion- Propulsion capability
Subjects from SIF 2
• “Downstream Application” based on satellite data- satellite images- positioning data
