MESSAGE FOR JAPANESE FANS:
Looking back on my career since “Private Dancer” I have so many wonderful memories-far too many to recall at once. My dream was always to pack the big football stadiums with fans and have a number one record. I performed in front of huge crowds with the Rolling Stones,Rod Stewart and David Bowie, but doing it on my own was a special thrill. Of course, “What’s Love Got To Do With It” not only topped the charts, but also won four Grammys.
When it came to compiling this album we thought it might be fun to put on some new songs-some “future hits”.Actually,“Nutbush City Limits” is a new version of an old favorite from the early 1970s, with a fresh dance twist. I think it works great. There are three totally new songs and my favorite is “Love Thing”-real rock and roll!
And the future? Well, I’ll be making more records and pursuing an acting career. Tina Turner

“AN EARLY BIRD NOTE”
14
The Best
I call you I need you My heart’s on fire You come to me come to me Wild and wired Oh you come to me Give me everything I need Give me a lifetime of promises And a world of dreams Sprinkling this love like You know what it means Oh and it can’t be wrong Take my heart and make it strong baby You’re simply the best Better than all the rest Better than anyone Anyone I ever met A shot from your heart I hang on every word you say Don’t tear us apart Baby I would rather be dead In your heart I see the start Of every night and every day In your eyes I get lost I get washed away Just as long as I’m here In your arms I could be In no better place You’re simply the best Better than all the rest Better than anyone Anyone I ever met Oh a shot from your heart I hang on every word you say Don’t tear apart Baby I would rather be dead Each time you leave me
I start losing control You’re walking away With my heart and my soul I can feel you even when I’m alone Oh baby don’t let go You’re the best Better than all the rest Better than anyone Anyone I ever met Oh a shot from your heart I hang on every word you say Don’t tear us apart no Baby I would rather be dead Still the best
What's Love Got To Do With It
You must understand Though the touch of your hand Makes my pulse react That it’s only the thrill Of boy meeting girl Opposites attract
It’s physical Only logical You must try to ignore That it means more than that
*Oh what’s love got to do with it What’s love but second hand emotions What’s love got to do with it Who needs a heart When a heart can be broken What’s love but sweet old-fashioned notions
It may seem to you That I’m acting confused 15
16
When you’re close to me If I tend to look dazed I’ve read it someplace I’ve got cause to be There’s a name for it There’s a phrase that fits But whatever the reason You do it for me
* Repeat
I’ve been taking a new direction But I have to say I’ve been thinking about my own protection It scares me to feel this way
What’s love got to do with it What’s love but a sweet old-fashioned notion What’s love got to do with it Who needs a heart When a heart can be broken
I Can't Stand The Rain
I can’t stand the rain Against my window Bringing back sweet memories I can’t stand the rain Against my window Because he’s not here with me
Hey window pain Do you remember How sweet it used to be When we were together Everything was so grand Now that we’ve parted There’s only one sound
That I just can’t stand
I can’t stand the rain Against my window Bringing back sweet memories I can’t stand the rain
I Don't Wanna Lose You
Women of a certain age They learn to rely And judge all his responses Having played the mating game She’s doesn’t waste time ’Cause all that she wants is Really honest emotion Ones he can’t help but show Though I hardly know your name I know about love and I know I don’t wanna lose you I don’t even wanna say goodbye I just wanna hold on To this true love true love Women who have made mistakes Are a little afraid They don’t like taking chances She will play the waiting game She’s never impressed by the manly advances I know I’ve only just met you Maybe I should know better But when you look at me that way There’s something inside that’s so right I don’t wanna lose you I don’t even wanna say goodbye I just wanna hold on To this true love true love I don’t wanna lose you And I always wanna feel this way
’Cause everytime I’m with you I feel true love true love true love Tell me you’re real You’re not pretending Let’s make a deal ’Cause my heart’s depending on you I don’t wanna lose you I don’t even wanna say goodbye I just wanna hold on To this true love true love I don’t wanna lose you And I always wanna feel this way ’Cause everytime I’m with you I feel your true love true love I don’t wanna lose you I don’t even wanna say goodbye I just wanna hold on To this true love true love I don’t wanna lose you And I always want to feel this way ’Cause everytime I’m with you I feel your true love true love
Nutbush City Limits
A church house gin house A school house out house On highway number nineteen The people keep the city clean They call it Nutbush oh Nutbush Call it Nutbush city limits
Twenty-five was the speed limit Motorcycle not allowed in it You go t’the store on Friday You go to church on Sunday They call it
Nutbush oh Nutbush Call it Nutbush city limits
You go t’the fields on weekdays And have a picnic on Labor Day You go to town on Saturday But go to church ev’ry Sunday They call it Nutbush oh Nutbush Call it Nutbush city limits
No whiskey for sale You can’t cop no bail Salt pork and molasses Is all you get in jail They call it Nutbush oh Nutbush Call it Nutbush city limits
Little old town in Tennessee That’s called a quiet little old community A one-horse town you have to watch What you’re puttin’ down in old Nutbush They call it Nutbush oh Nutbush Call it Nutbush city limits
Let's Stay Together
Let me say since Since we’ve been together Loving you forever Is all I need Let me be the one you come running to I’ll never be untrue Oh baby
* Let’s stay together 17
Loving you whether Whether times are good or bad Happy or sad
l-l’m so in love with you Whatever you want me to do Is alright with me
Let me be the one you come running to I’ll never be untrue Oh baby
* Repeat
Why oh tell me why do people break up And run around and make up I just came to see You’d never do that to me Would ya baby Being around you is all I see Oh baby
Private Dancer
Well the men come in these places And the men are all the same You don’t look at their faces And you don’t ask their names You don’t think of them as human You don’t think of them at all You keep your mind on the money Keeping your eyes to the wall
*l’m your private dancer A dancer for money I’ll do what you want me to do I’m your private dancer A dancer for money And any old music will do
I want to make a million dollars I want to live out by the sea Have a husband and some children Yeah I guess I want a family All the men come in these places And the men are all the same You don’t look at their faces And you don’t ask their names
* Repeat twice
We Don't Need Another Hero
Out in the ruins Out from the wreckage Can’t they decide to stay this time We are the children Last generation We are the ones they left behind Now I wonder when we are ever gonna change Living under the fear ’Til nothing else remains
*We don’t need another hero We don’t need to know the way home All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome
Looking for something We can rely on Got to be something better out there Love and compassion Our day is coming All else are castles built in the air And I wonder when we are ever gonna change Living under the fear ’Til nothing else remains
* * All the children say
We don’t need another here We don’t need to know the way home All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome
But did you think I’d just accept you blind faith Oh sure babe anything to please you
So what do we do with our lives We leave all this alone Will our stories shine like a light Or is this all done Is it all or nothing
* Repeat * * Repeat
Better Be Good To Me
A prisoner of your love Entangled in your web Hot whispers in the night I’m captured by your spell captured Oh yes I’m touched by this show of emotion Should I be fractured By your lack of devotion Should I should I
Oh you better be good to me That’s how it’s got to be now ’Cause I don’t have no use For what you loosely call the truth Oh you better be good to me Yes you better be good to me
And I think it’s only right That we don’t meet at night We stand face to face And you present your case And I know you keep telling me That you love me And I really do want to believe
Oh you better be good to me That’s how it’s got to be now ’Cause I don’t have the time For your over-loaded lines Yes you better be good to me Yes you better be good to me
And I really don’t see Why it’s so hard to be Good to me And I don’t understand What’s your plan That you can’t Be good to me What I can’t feel I surely cannot see why can’t you Be good to me If it is not real I do not wish to see Why can’t you Be good to me Why can’t you Be good to me
River Deep-Mountain High
When I was a little girl I had a rag doll Only doll I’ve ever owned Now I love you just the way I loved that rag doll But only now my love has grown And it gets stronger In every way 19
And it gets deeper Let me say That it gets higher Day by day Ooh I love you my oh my Yeah river deep mountain high Yeah yeah yeah If I lost you would I cry Oh I love you baby Baby baby When you were a young boy Did you have a puppy That always followed you around Well I’m gonna be as faithful as that puppy No I’ll never let you down ’Cause it flows Farther Like a river falls And it get bigger baby And heaven knows And it gets sweeter baby As it grows Ooh I love you my oh my Yeah river deep mountain high Yeah yeah yeah If I lost you would I cry Oh I love you baby Baby baby baby I love you baby As the flower loves the spring And I could love you baby Like a robin loves to sing And I love you baby Like a schoolboy likes parents And I love you baby River deep mountain high Oh baby baby Baby baby baby
20 Oh I love you my oh my
River deep mountain high Yeah yeah yeah If I lost you would I cry Lord I love you baby Baby baby baby
Steamy Windows
I was thinking about parking the other night We was out on a back road Me and my woman was just gettin’ right Our systems on overload The radio blasting in the front seat Turning out the music fine We was snuggled up in the back seat Making up for lost time
Steamy windows-zero visibility Steamy windows-coming from the body heat
You can wine and dine a woman all night With good intentions But there’s something About competition on a back road Breaks down the defenses
Steamy windows-ain’t nobody can see Steamy windows-coming from the body heat
There’s a sound outside the front door And I know it’s just the wind But it makes her snuggle up Just a little bit closer And it starts things happening again
Steamy windows-zero visibility Steamy windows-coming from the body heat Steamy windows-steamy windows
Typical Male
Tell me lawyer what to do I think I’m failin’ in love with you Defend me from the way I feel Won’t you give me some advice On how to handle my private life I’m sure that we can make it work
I confess I’m a fool for a man With a clever mind But your intellect ain’t no match For this heart of mine
* All I want is a little reaction Just enough to tip the scales I’m just using my female attraction On a typical male on a typical male
Your sense of justice ill embrace But your defense don’t help my case I’m deep in trouble with the law Something about authority Seems to bring out the bad in me Hey lawyer, gotta catch me when I fall
Oh they say that you match your wits With the best of them But I know when I’m close you’re just Like the rest of them
* Repeat twice
So put your books aside Loosen off the suit and tie Open up your heart and let me in Open up your heart and let me in
* Repeat
It Takes Two
One can have a dream baby Two can make the dream so real One can talk about living love Two can see how it really feels One can wish upon a star Two can make a wish come true One can stand alone in the dark Two can make the light shine through
* It takes two baby it takes two baby Just me and you You know it takes two
One can have a broken heart Livin’ in misery Two can really ease the pain That’s a perfect remedy One can be alone in a bar Like an island here all alone Tow can make just any place Seem just like being at home
* Repeat 3 times
One can go out to the movies Looking for a special treat Two can make that scene in the movies Something really kinda neat And one can take a walk in the moonlight Thinking that it’s really nice But two lovers walking hand and hand Is like adding just a pinch of spice
* Repeat twice 21
Addicted To Love
The lights are on but you’re not home Your mind is not your own Your body sweats your body shakes Another kiss is what it takes You can’t eat you can’t sleep There’s no doubt you’re in deep Your throat is tight you can’t breathe Another kiss is all you need Oh you like to think That you’re immune to the stuff oh yeah It’s closer to the truth You know you’re gonna have to face it You’re addicted to love You might as well face it You’re addicted to love
You see the signs but you can’t read You’re running at a different speed Your heart beats at double time Another kiss And you’ll be mind one track mind You can’t be saved another Young love is all you crave And if the sun left you You don’t mind it feels blue Oh you like to think That you’re immune to the stuff oh yeah It’s closer to the truth You know you’re gonna have to face it You’re addicted to love Gonna have to face it you’re addicted to love Might as well face it you’re addicted to love Might as well face it you’re addicted to love Might as well face it you’re addicted to love Might as well face it you’re addicted to love

You got the right to tell me It’s all over It’s isn’t like me to be Begging you Don’t let go, don’t let go Just stay with me another day

* I want you near me Don’t you run away Just got used to having you around I want you near me Come on here and stay Don’t let me down Don’t let me down
All I want I’ve decided Is your attention Undivided
* Repeat

Baby I need a hand to hold tonight And one bright star to remind me How dear is this life Baby I’ve never known anyone like you There’s something very special about you I can’t imagine living without you
* It’s the way of the world and it’s motion And no ocean can keep us apart When the moment is right And you’re holding me tight You capture the beat of my heart In my heart there’s a fire that’s burning And there isn’t a thing I can do I’m resigned to the fact That there’s no turning back And I’ll never regret loving you
Baby I will go anywhere you lead As long as you’re there beside me Baby that’s all I need Hold me hold me and never let me go I’m always gonna care about you I never want to be without you
* Repeat
You’re everything I believe in Don’t ever lose the feeling Don’t ever lose the feeling, no

Close your eyes follow me I’ll show you a world you’ve never been to Take a ride in my love machine And I won’t do anything you can’t get into What I got is what you need And you won’t do a thing about it Let me take you there Let me take you there tonight
* Repeat
I never want you to go I always want you to stay So c’mon baby c’mon now, c’mon now, c’mon
Saw your eyes open wide And I knew your heart was in it Let me take you there Let me take you there tonight
