StanwoodMiddleSchoolhasacurrentenrollmentofapproximately493studentsservinggrades6,7and8.Studentsparticipateinsixclasseseachday,whichincludecoresubjectsandelectives.Studentsalsoparticipateinanadvisoryclassonceperweekwheretheyreceivelessonswithasocial,emotionalandacademicfocus.Studentsin6thgradehaveafterschoolclubs,while7thand8thgradestudentsmayparticipateinavarietyofsports,activitiesandclubs.

TheStanwood-CamanoSchoolDistrictusesavarietyofassessmentmeasurestodevelopaprofileofwhatstudentsknowandareabletodo.TheseprofilesareusedtomonitorandreportstudentprogressinmeetingtheWashingtonStateLearningStandards(WSLS).TheSmarterBalance(SBA)assessesstudentknowledgeintwocoresubjectareas(math,EnglishLanguageArts).Tomeasurescience,weusetheWashingtonComprehensiveAssessmentofScience(WCAS).Theseassessmentsuseacombinationofmultiple-choiceandshortanswerresponses.Thetestsareadministeredtostudentsingradesthreethrougheight,tenandeleven.Noteverygradelevelistestedinthesamesubjectareas.ThescoresbelowindicatethepercentageofstudentswhometorexceededthestatestandardontheSBAtheWCASforscience.

TheEveryStudentSucceedsAct(ESSA)isthemainfederallawforK–12generaleducation.Itcoversallstudentsinpublicschools.
