Even better, for its � rst year of release, Windows® 10 is a free upgrade for people owning fully patched Windows® 7 or 8.1 computers.

Internet Explorer® has been replaced by a new, better browser: Microsoft Edge®.

Nearly any computer sold in the past � ve years can be upgraded to Windows® 10. As long as the computer is running Windows® 7, 8, or 8.1, it should run without problems.

Windows® 10 runs almost any program that runs on Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, Windows® 8, and Windows® 8.1. However, some older programs, such as antivirus, � rewall, and security suites, may not work.

For all those desktop lovers, Windows® 10 brings back the Start button and Start menu.

Apple® has Siri®, and now Microsoft® has Cortana®. This new digital assistant helps you with a variety of tasks, like fetching lost � les and stocking your calendar with appointments.

Windows® 10 is less redundant than its predecessors. Where Windows® 8 and 8.1 contained two control panels, two web browsers, and two photo viewers, Windows® 10 presents a more uni� ed front so that you needn’t jump between two places to complete a single task.

Microsoft® is treating Windows® 10 like a service. It plans to keep adding new apps, features, and updates to Windows® 10 for as long as you own the device.
