Tough Questions…

• Ask yourself if you have ever enjoyed the experience of being controlled and manipulated by someone with power and authority over you. The answer most would give is a resounding NO. If this is true for most people, it is also true for students.

Shift

• Children’s access to mobile media devices is much greater today than two years ago. In 2011, only 8 percent of families with children ages 0-8 owned a tablet device. In 2013, 40 percent of families reported owning a tablet.

• Roughly twice as many children use mobile media today than in 2011. The amount of time using the devices has increased, which is a reflection of wider access to devices. Today, 72 percent of children ages 0-8 have used a mobile device. Source: eSchoolNews

Teacher Talk… 7th grade Math

• “Edmodo!!! Our video lessons are awesome especially since they can watch them ANYWHERE! WOOT!! They are such an amazing tool to get students in the same frame of mind before beginning a lesson the next day. It really cuts down on the baby deer in headlights we usually get when starting a new topic”

Teacher Talk… Middle School Gifted

• “With all the group projects I get my kids involved with, I taught them how to use Google Scholar (mainly for National History Day) and Google Docs. Google Docs has turned out to be a Godsend for them. Now it’s all they’ll use. They love being able to add/edit simultaneously in real time. My students also really love to use Preziwhenever they pre-test out of a unit and receive an alternate assignment from me.”

Teacher Talk… 6th grade Science

• “Remind 101- Free app that allows one way text messages to anyone that signs up for it. This is a great way to increase communication and the completion of homework assignments. Google Apps- Easily share interactive study guides that include links to music and videos. This provides students a more fun way to study. Students also create documents/presentations and can work at home or school with automatic saving.”
