Principal’s Message
Staffing News
Today was the final day of the year for Mrs Amy Russell before she commences her maternity leave in preparation for the birth of her first child. We wish Mrs Russell the very best as she embarks on life’s greatest adventure and pass on our thanks for her dedication to the school community and in particular the students of 1/2R this year. We welcome Mrs Asiye Ozel to The Meadows who will be the classroom teacher for 1/2R for the final 14 weeks of the school year. Mrs Ozel already has a proud connection to The Meadows PS, having served as our School Captain in 2007.
In other staffing news, we have also employed Mr Brandon Duckworth as a full-time support teacher for the remainder of the year. We are thrilled to have two excellent teachers in Mrs Ozel and Mr Duckworth join us on a regular basis!
K-6 Assembly Awards
Congratulations to the many students who received Teacher Awards, Assistant Principal Awards, Principal Awards and ‘Huey’ Kookaburra Pins at this week’s very unique award presentations. In these difficult times with Covid-19, it was of course disappointing that we could not have parents present to watch their children receive their awards. However, the two separate presentations were filmed by Mrs Thornton and the video footage of each child receiving their award was posted on our school Facebook page on Tuesday morning.
SASS Recognition Week / Student’s Fun Page
This week has been School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS) Recognition week. Our SASS at The Meadows PS do an outstanding job with administration, financial management, grounds and building maintenance and supporting students and families in our classrooms, playground, canteen and Schools as Communities Centre. We are blessed to have such a fine team. To get to know our SASS staff a little more, check out our ‘Things You Didn’t Know About our SASS Team’ pages further into the newsletter. To all of our student readers, there’s a competition quiz page at the back of the newsletter but you’ll have to read the SASS page first to find out all of the answers!

School Chaplains
Whilst not officially recognised as ‘School Administrative and Support Staff’ by the Department of Education, it is still a good opportunity in this newsletter to promote the great work of our two School Chaplains, Miss Linnea Gilbert and Mr Jan Perez.
Student Wellbeing is the foundation stone at TMPS, the platform on which all learning is built as we first and foremost ensure that every child is known, valued and cared for. Linnea and Jan’s key role is to provide an additional layer of support towards the emotional wellbeing of our students. Our chaplains visit students in every classroom at The Meadows and our students certainly enjoy the positive interactions and support that both Linnea and Jan provide.
COVID-19 Tests
In accordance with advice from NSW Health, parents and carers are reminded NOT to send children to school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms. Schools will make arrangements for students who are unwell or have flu like symptoms to be sent home. NSW Health have requested that schools encourage anyone who is unwell or has even mild flu-like symptoms, to arrange to be tested through their local medical practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics.
If your child is tested for Covid-19, it is imperative that you provide a copy of the negative test results to the school office BEFORE your child returns to school.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Parent / Teacher Interviews
Thank you to the parents who made themselves available for a phone interview this week. We had a very positive response to the phone interview format, with the vast majority of families accepting the invitation for an interview.
I have enjoyed receiving feedback from some parents who have remarked how informed they have become about their child’s progress and indeed how well their children were truly known as individuals by their teachers.
If you missed the opportunity for an interview and wish to reconsider, please contact the school office or your child’s teacher next week.
Totally Smiles Dental Program
Pending any further COVID-19 restrictions, a school dentist mobile clinic from Totally Smiles is visiting our school in the first week of Term 4 starting Monday, 12th October. Every student across K-6 at The Meadows PS has received a consent form last week. Please complete the consent form to see if your child is eligible for $1000 worth of dental care under the Child Dental Benefits Scheme. Educators from Totally Smiles will also be visiting each classroom in the final week of this term on Monday, 21st September to speak for 15 minutes about the importance of healthy dental hygiene.
Kinder 2021 Enrolments
Do you have a younger child ready to start Kinder at The Meadows PS next year? Or do you know someone in the neighbourhood who has? If so, please come along or invite your neighbours to come along and commence the enrolment process NOW! We have 62 students in our current 2020 Kinder cohort and we are eager to at least match that figure heading into 2021!
As of today, as we approach the end of August, our Kinder 2021 group consists of 28 confirmed and enrolled students.
Please make all enquiries through Mrs Anderson at the front office.
Look after each other,
Scott Staveley Principal
Positive Behaviour for Learning
Our Positive Behaviour for Learning Focus for Term 3 Week 7 & 8 is:
SPEAKING RESPECTFULLY TO OTHERS
We speak to others calmly and kindly and use appropriate language when speaking.
