nto the Noble Barony Bordermarch,HE Santiago & HE Elisabeth, do send these warm greetings...U
The month of September found HE Elisabeth and me, and our fellow Bordermarchers, at Defender of the Fort hosted by our good neighbors at
Raven’s Fort. We visited with old friends and enjoyed the day
watching our fighters battle for the honor of becoming a new Raven’s Fort Champion.
One and all we spent the day reveling in the good times being offered at this wonderful event. Any time we share fellowship together with Bordermarchers is time well spent with family.
With a work day scheduled for the weekend of 10/06/12, we should be able to prepare our site for Autumn Melees “War of the Rams” in November. We expect a lot of old acquaintances and new faces to visit us this year so we want to present ourselves with our best foot forward.
The event planning committee, that includes the event stewards and their coordinators, has done a spectacular job of setting up the event schedules. They have taken all the steps that are necessary to assure that this year’s Autumn Melees, War of the Rams runs as smooth as clockwork. Sharing the load is what a family does best that’s why HE Elisabeth and I ask that everyone in Bordermarch help in some way to make this event special. If you want to be of service to the barony all you have to do is ask,
“What can I do to help?”

A Day-Journey to Visit Neighbors

“Defender of the Fort” yearly at a neighboring Barony of
Raven’sFort is an event we always try to schedule. This year it was a day trip with Lady Ehlene riding with HE Simonn and myself, she with her hand crafts of talented productions, and with Lord Yacob and m’lord Caius carpolling nearby, toting armor and raring to compete. As anyone passed gate, there is a sign not to be missed at the Equestrian field: “MorningStar Field,” so named to honor the memory of a dear friend, Mistress Janet of MorningStar who passed from us a few years ago.
When we arrived on the lane, Their Excellencies Santiago & Elisabeth had already set up t h e i r day shade, as had Lord Thomas & Lady Ji l l ian. We arrived after opening court but in time for watching plenty of the rapier and chivalric fighting and keeping eyes on the equestrians as well as looking over all the A & S displays. His Majesty Hrafan was “majestic” indeed, touring site on horseback. Their Excellencies Pace & Giovanna, B&B of Raven’sFort, were making the rounds, welcoming all their guests individually with their cheerful smiles. Lord Yacob and M’lord Caius jumped into the frey of the chivalric competition with Mi’lord Caius doing nicely in the finish of the “New Fighter” rounds. Sir Henri and Lady Rosalinda were also meeting their competetors on the chivalric field, and Simonn marshalled or observed rather than fight that day. His Excellency the Founding Baron Raven’sFort, Sir Keif, is always fun to see! And joy! Lord Thomas kept advancing in the rapier field, much to the delight of his hometown folk. It was noted that other Bordermarchers had been on site in soaking rain during the hours prior, but
needfully decided to leave. They were missed. And yet the day, the mud, dried out fairly well; a fair summer’s day with no breeze.
Their Excellencies Elisabeth & Santiago once again so fully extended Their hospitality that before long, Their
cousin B&Bs from around kingdom had gathered en masse at Their Bordermarch shade, exchanging stories,
sharing wisdom. All Bordermarchers shared finger foods, fruits, meats, and such, listening and laughing together through the morning. A visitor of spidorious proportion did attempt to enter the Bordermarch shades, but His Excellency Santiago did persuade said arachnid to rest elsewhere. At one point it was prudent of us to raise the poles holding up the shade, as a friend had more than once gracefully cracked her skull meeting low poles entering the area. Nameless shall remain the beautiful graceful dancer baroness to our west...
At 1:00 o’clock the hostess of Their Raven Excellencies’ Noble Luncheon did come to offer personal invitations to HE Simonn & myself, and thus Simonn & I happily joined with the landed noble cousins for a noon repast under the
shade of huge trees beside His Majesty’s pavilion. And Lord Thomas advanced in the
rapier lists... There had been more than two dozen rapier combatants I counted as we first
arrived, so he had his workout! Congrats to Lord Thomas and to Mi’lord Caius on their competitions for the day, looking good!
There were business meetings for several of us to attend for the afternoon, after which, daytripping as we were, Simonn and Ehlene and I folded our gear and helped others fold theirs also, and back
on the road our vehicles were, our conveyance to stop off at OnAlaska to briefly visit Lord Adolf the Bear, busy with his goats and fences. Lord Yacob and Mi’lord Caius stayed at Raven’s Fort longer, beyond the sundown, and they could no doubt tell you more... ...
It is always a pleasure to attend Raven’sFort Defender; their
populace in turn look to soon support BAM, for which Bordermarch is thankful!

Congratulations to my Lord husband,
Thomas Peregrine. He fought
most honorably and admirably for
the championship of HE Giovanna of
Ravensfort and bested all competitors
save one, Don Stephen Crowley. As
every day, I am filled with pride and love
for you and all you do, and gladly share
this with all the Populace so that they
may know of your honor, prowess, and
skill. I am blessed to have you as my
Champion...

BAM is quickly approaching and
I’m sending out a call for help. Most of the gate shifts are still open so if you’d like to volunteer to sit a shift or two it would be greatly appreciated!
Their Excellencies have promised a warm place to sit and I will make sure that drinks, snacks and a possible soup or stew will be available to all who lend a hand.
Don’t miss this opportunity to help welcome our guests in the tradition of hospitality that Bordermarch is known for. Please contact me or Jeffery the Barbarian and we will get you on the gate list.

Barony Generostiy Grows for BAM
This year’s BAM is shaping up to be monumental! And
in order to make it even more memorable for some of the special folks in our lives, the barony has decided to prepare a few gifts. If you have anything you’d like to donate, I’m collecting from now until mid-November (and probably up until the very day!) anywhere you see me, or know someone can pass along items.
Some ideas/thoughts/themes are: colors of purple, green, & gold; blue & white, red & gold, earth tones;
brewing suppliesgeneral/French historyCeltic itemsFleur-de-lys
Phoenix/swordsHorseshoesPaw printsArcheryI have already commissioned some specialty
tankards for our recipients, but anything is welcome to showcase the hearts of this Barony.
I would also like to suggest that any of our supremely talented artisans and craftsman ply your favorite art and donate an example.
Finally, the incoming crown of Glean Abhann has specifically asked for largesse for them to give to the children of their Kingdom. I would dearly love to be able to give them a HUGE basket of kid-appropriate goodies to pass along. I have several wonderful items already collected, but I truly want to weigh them down in a ridiculous manner with the generosity of this group!

Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
One other thing, if we are to be able to have any Cry Heralds for the event, I will need at
least 6 volunteers before the event so that I can get it all planned out. It’s really very simple and ya get to “Tell ‘Em Where To Go!” .
Two shifts- morning, late afternoon or both, about 15 min of your time each shift. Step right up.
(Please keep in mind that one or two people can NOT adequately cover the event site.)
It is a joy!

Here’s a quick and easy protein muffin to make ahead and take
to BAM or Gulf War.
Omelet Muffins(12 Muffins)
10 large eggs12 thin slices of hammedium chopped tomato1/2 c mushrooms finely chopped1/2 purple onion finely choppedsmall package of sausage(turkey or pork)salt and pepper to taste
Spray 12 muffin tins with oil and lay ham slices in each like a cupcake liner.
Cook sausage, mushrooms, and onions until done, drain.
Beat eggs with salt and pepper to taste.Add tomatoes and meat mixture to eggs.
Spoon into the 12 muffin cups.Bake at 350 degrees for approxiamately 20 minutes or until
done in the center, remove and let cool before storing.
Place in zip lock containers or seal-a-meal bags. If going to war you can “seal-a-
meal” them and then pop in boiling water for 2-5 minutes to warm up. Eat as is or chopped in a tortilla with a little salsa. You can make these any way you want with different ingredients like cheese, pepperoni etc..high in protein and good for you.

Healing Kitchen Knowledgefrom Mistress Tessa’s Garden to Hearth...
With many health needs and healing issues on our
minds, I found antioxident research particularly intereting.
We don’t know if My-lady’s farm and kitchen knowledge 500 years ago included the following details about “antioxidents,” but I rather imagine cooks had surmised that certain seasonings were not only savory and delicious, but certain ones were nutritious towards good health.
Here’s to your healthy kitchening!
I’ve been sewing some new tabards for the Azure Tide, the former Coastal War Company. Here are 3 war tabard pictures.
Some interesting facts about seasonings that we know today:
1/2 teaspoon OREGANO has • as many antioxidents as 3 cups SPINACH1/2 teaspoon GARLIC POWDER has a many • antioxidents a 1/2 cup ZUCCHINI1/2 teaspoon BLACK PEPPER has as many • antioxidents as 1/2 cup CHOPPED TOMATOES1/2 teaspoon CINNAMON has as many antioxidents as • 1/4 cup BLUEBERRIES1/2 teaspoon GINGER has as many antioxidents as 1 • c u p CUCUMBERS1/2 teaspoon CAYENNE PEPPER has as many antioxidents as • 1/4 cup HONEYDEW MELON1/2 teaspoon THYME has as many antioxidents as 1 medium • CARROT1/2 teaspoon ROSEMARY has as many antioxidents as 1/2 • cup WATERMELON1/2 teaspoon TURMERIC has as many antioxidents as 1 cup • BROCCOLI1/2 teaspoon CLOVES has as many antioxidents as 1/2 cup SWEET CHERRIES• 1/2 teaspoon CUMIN has as many antioxidents as 1/2 cup PINEAPPLE.•

c. 1410-16/Paris
In this miniature by the Limbourgs representing the month of October, the Louvre, then the residence of kings of France, stands on Paris’ right bank, across the Seine from the farming scene in the heart of Paris in the foreground. The Figures at the bottom plow the field and plant the seeds while in the middle distance a scarecrow archer and network of strings protects a planted field form the birds. In the centuries since the Limbourgs painted this scene, the architecture of the Louvre, painted here in exquisite detail, has undergone an immense amount of renovation, remodeling, redesign, and reconstruction.
