Andwhileyou’renotquite“grown”yet,yournarrativeabouthowyou’vecometothisplace/spaceinyourlifeisvaluable.Influencesthattakecenterstage-whenyoureflectonhowyou’vecometobeyou-shouldbefeaturedinyourpersonalnarrative.Chooseoneofthefollowingoptionsbywhichtotellthatstory:

• Writeachildren’sbook,featuringpictures/drawings/artwork,thatcentersaroundalifelessonyou’velearnedbecauseofanexperienceyou’vehad.Itshouldbeappropriatefor3rd-5thgradereaders.10pagesminimum,printedincolorbookletform

• Puttogetherafilm,documentingwithpictures,testimonials,newspaperclippings,etc.thatshareswithyouraudienceinsightsonanaspectofyourlife.Thefilmshouldbe5-7minuteslongandclearvoiceovernarrationshouldbeused.

• Createamusicalbumthatfeatures3originalsongsaboutatimeinyourlifewhereyoulearnedavaluablelesson,buteachsongmustbewrittenfromvariedperspectivesaboutthesamelesson.Becreativewiththoseperspectives,whichcanincludeage,participantperspectives,instrumentvariation,etc.

• Choose10axiomsfromthenovelandcreate10spinepoemsthatthoughtfullyutilizethewordsfromthosequoteswithinthenewpoems.Seebackfordetails.

WriteaSPINEPOEM.Select10meaningfullinesfromanywhereinthenovel.Therearehundredsofpotentiallinesthatstandoutasmeaningful,profound,worthrepeating,andworththoughtthroughoutthenovel.Onceyouselectaline,checkitoutwithmetomakesureyouareontherighttrack.Then,usethelineastheSPINEofapoem.Thewordsmustoccurinthesameorderastheyappearinthequote,butshouldnotappearconsecutively.Thewordsformthebackboneofthepoem.Thethemeofthepoemshouldrelateinsomewaytothelineitselfandyourviewongrowingup.Poemsdonothavetorhyme,buttheyshouldhavepoeticlanguage.Apoemisnotmerelyagroupofsentencesorthoughtswritteninstanzaformwithoutpunctuation.Yourpoemshouldreflectthesamecareandeffortastheotherwritingassignments.LinesforthepoemshouldbchosenfortheirMEANINGFULcontentratherthentheirBREVITY.Minimumthoughtandeffortwillearnacorrespondinggrade.
