What happens at the Interview?1. Go to Correct interview
2. Please arrive 15mins early for your appointmentand have all of your documentation.
3. If you are more than 10 minutes late they canrefuse you and this will delay you in departing forthe US.
4. You will go into the Non-Immigrant Visa Unit andwait until your name is called.
5. When it is called you will submit yourdocumentation and be asked several questions suchas:

Answer any questions honestly and point out the fact thatyou are going on placement for University. If there is anyproblem with your application they will usually let you knowimmediately. Let your UCC administrator know right away.

Preparing to Go
Make sure you have made photocopies of therelevant documents like passport, visa, any
work documents and leave them with your
parents
Start searching the web for long-term
accommodation. One great website iswww.craigslist.org. Be careful about putting a
deposit in on a room you havent seen yet!
Take a look at the CIEE Handbook which will
arrive in your pre-departure pack. All of the
information in the pack is important. The ArrivalSurvival Guide will help you for once you get
there. You should receive an ONLINE
orientation from CIEE linked in an email. Check
your junk mail.

Insurance Receipt Address of place you are staying
upon arrival
Return Evidence
Completed I-94 card - you will receivethis at the airport
Immigration are entitled to question you about your
stay in the US. Be up front and honest. USImmigration CAN deny you entry to the US even
though the US Embassy has approved you, so besure not to give them any reason to.

Applying for Social Security Registeryour US address with SEVIS as soon as possible and do not
apply for your Social Security number until 2 business days after this.
Social Security also recommend that you wait 10 days after you have
arrived in the US before applying for your Social Security Number.
Visit your local Social Security Administration Office with your Dear
Social Security Officer letter, your passport, DS-2019 and I-94 card.
Complete the application forms and pay the fee. Make sure to provide avalid US mailing address for your card to be shipped to.
Keep receipt and any other item that is given to you as proof ofapplication.
A card will be returned to whatever address you have supplied on your
application form within 4 to 6 weeks.
You are allowed to be paid with out a Social Security Number.
Any problems with obtaining you number contact CIEE and/or USIT
straight away!

Location, Location, Location: make surethat where you live has easy access to yourhost company and to grocery stores andentertainment. You can check out the area
where you live using the internet or guidebooks. Please note that public transport is noas frequent and accessible as you may think,so check the route from home to work beforechoosing somewhere to live. Also ask yourhost company!
Housing: Renting, sublettingand sharing are the optionsmost participants choose.Obtain all agreements withyour landlord in writing as onlywritten agreements are binding.If there is any existing damage
to the accommodation makesure to obtain writtenacknowledgement of thatdocumentation. Make sure thatyou are aware of allapartment/housing estate rulesand do your best not to violateany of these.

Opening a Bank Account:
You should take two forms ofphoto ID with you, as well as yourSocial Security card, proof ofaddress and a letter from yourHost Company verifying yourstatus as a trainee. Some banksmay also ask for a reference letterfrom your bank at home, so its agood idea to request one of these.You should generally open achecking account, which will allowyou to have easy access to yourmoney.

REMEMBER!US banking is regional, so you will

Travelling while in the US
If you must leave the US for anyreason you must have your DS-2019 signed by a ResponsibleOfficer at CIEE in Boston. Pleasedo this in a timely manner - planahead! Take your DS-2019 andpassport with you!
There are lots of options for travelwithin the US: road, rail and air!Hostels are not as widespread insmaller areas, however motels
are available and are fairlyinexpensive!
