WHAT “MOTHER” MIGHT HAVE SAID
I recently ran across a list of imagined mother’s cautions from
history. I had fun with them, and think you will, too. Paul Revere’s mother: “I don’t care where you think you have to go, young man.
Midnight is past your curfew!” Mona Lisa’s mother: “After all that money your father and I spent on braces,
Mona, that’s the biggest smile you can give us?” Columbus’ mother: “I don’t care what you’ve discovered, Christopher, you still
could have written!” Michaelangelo’s mother: “Look, Mikey, why can’t you paint on the walls like other
children? Do you have any idea how hard it is to get that stuff off the ceil-ing?”
Abraham Lincoln’s mother: “Again with the stovepipe hat, Abe? Why can’t you
wear a baseball cap like the other kids?” Albert Einstein’s mother: “But, Albert, it’s your senior picture. Can’t you do
something about your hair? Styling gel, mousse, something…?” Jonah’s mother: “That’s a nice story, Jonah, but now tell me where you’ve really
been for the last 3 days. Thomas Edison’s mother: “Of course I’m proud that you invented the light bulb,
Thomas. Now, turn off that light and get to bed!”
Have a great week…and listen to your mother!
Grace and Peace,
Lynne

When people trust us - our words are strong, and our lives can be built with integrity. Honesty is really a big deal. Honesty is choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do. Come join us at Sunday School every Sunday at 10:00 am to find out what the Bible says about Honesty. Week 1- Proverbs 10:9 "Anyone who lives without blame walks safely." Living your life with integrity. Bottom line: Being truthful helps you stay out of trouble. Week 2- Genesis 27 Jacob and Esau Bottom line: When you are not truthful, you can hurt the people you care about. Week 3- 2 Kings 5 Elisha and his servant, Gehazi Bottom line: When you are not truthful, you lose trust. Week 4- Esther Bottom line: When you lie to help yourself, you hurt yourself instead. Week 5 - 1 John 1:9 Honesty with God Bottom line: Being truthful with God keeps you close to Him As we explore these stories, let's remember what we say should line up with what we do. Our monthly verse can help us when we need strength. Psalm 119:29- " Keep me from cheating and telling lies. Be kind and teach me your law." So remember, God says- Honesty is the best policy no matter what! Praising God Always, Kimberly Bowers FUMC -LJ Children's Ministry Director

May Youth Spotlight - Becca Moore Becca Moore is our Youth
of the Month for May 2015.
Becca is very active in our
First Youth group. She’s
been coming to FUMC since
she was 5 months old and
she’s now a freshman at
Brazoswood.
One thing that makes Becca
special is that she is always
willing to help the younger
students at our church. She
was very welcoming to our
confirmands and she is also a
helper in the Dancing Angels
group. Becca also dances at
Footsteps Studio and helps
with some of the younger
classes there. Becca’s been
dancing for about 6 years.
Thank you, Becca, for helping
the younger students at
FUMC and for being a great
part of our First Youth group.
Happy Birthday on May 25!

in Concert
Thanks to our Outreach Ministry, First Youth will be sponsoring a
concert at our church by the Christian Rock band, Shattered Silence.
They will be performing at our church on Sunday night, June 7th.
This concert will be FREE. It will be an outreach program to the
youth in the area, as well as to the entire community. We are still
working on the details and will probably have some food available
for sale before the event.
SHATTERED SILENCE is an area band that many of you know. They had an album launch party at the LJ Civic Center
and they play at many area events, including Faith & Family Night at Schlitterbahn. They will not only be sharing
their music, but also some testimonies. They have a passion for music and for God. Find out more about them at
shatteredsilencemusic.com
