ClearPass Update:ClearPass is the server from Aruba that handles most of our new
wireless infrastructure. This past week Derly Buentello and Anna
Senties worked with Joel McCotter (Layer3) to add a second
ClearPass server to our network. This will load balance the Bring
Your Own Technology (BYOT) devices authentication requests.

Layer3 and CFISD team are on schedule to start next phase of Aruba wireless Access Point (AP)
deployment in the secondary schools, as a second pass. The next phase is called Dense Deployment.
Dense Deployment –Layer 3 will deploy access points in building, hang up the APs, but will not turn them
on. This way they are in place so when the network is ready the school will be ready to start using new
wireless. Schedule for Dense Deployment can be seen here.

Wireless Discussion Points:The naming scheme for the APs was finalized. Below is the naming convention to be used:
• Unique 3-letter campus variable, AP numbered identifier, and Room Number (RM) or unique location
identifier (i.e. HW…..abbreviation for Hallway).
Example #1 - CYR-AP005-RM3122 (AP #5 located in room 3122)
Example #2 - CYR-AP110-RM3122HW (AP #110 located in the Hallway outside of RM3122)

As the core infrastructure for the network is entering the
execution phase of the project, much coordination will
be required between both scheduled tasks and vendors.
Oscar Villar and the ECN Team will gather data and
assist with the coordination of the following vendors and
identified activities:
Vendor Coordination -
• Define Fortinet Installation Requirements
• Define BlueCat Installation Requirements
• Define Cisco Core Routing Requirements
Supporting Activites -
• UPS Installation Schedule
• Document Fiber to Portables
• Determine Strategy at Berry HUB

Cabling Project updates:
The cabling project is more then just running cable. The project
has been moving along, decisions are being made daily to help
move the project forward. The team has been making
decisions like on what cable boxes to add to buildings, what
Cisco switch will be used in portables, getting answers to
questions after a walkthrough, and other decisions and even
coordinating with outside vendors to drill holes at Hamilton MS
(4 week ordeal). All this to standardize the deployment for all
campuses. Increased project management in the scheduling of
these cabling activities is a top priority.

Assets Manager, compiled and verified the
“replacement data” for the instructional
campuses. Leonard is making site visits
to help the campus technicians validated
the inventories to ensure accuracy. The
data that is gathered will be analyzed and
then orders can be placed.
For the administrative campuses, the
technology service technicians have
surveyed those sites to verify inventories.
