ClearPass Update:ClearPass is the server from Aruba that handles most of our new

wireless infrastructure. This past week Derly Buentello and Anna

Senties worked with Joel McCotter (Layer3) to add a second

ClearPass server to our network. This will load balance the Bring

Your Own Technology (BYOT) devices authentication requests.

Layer3 and CFISD team are on schedule to start next phase of Aruba wireless Access Point (AP)

deployment in the secondary schools, as a second pass. The next phase is called Dense Deployment.

Dense Deployment –Layer 3 will deploy access points in building, hang up the APs, but will not turn them

on. This way they are in place so when the network is ready the school will be ready to start using new

wireless. Schedule for Dense Deployment can be seen here.

Wireless Discussion Points:The naming scheme for the APs was finalized. Below is the naming convention to be used:

• Unique 3-letter campus variable, AP numbered identifier, and Room Number (RM) or unique location

identifier (i.e. HW…..abbreviation for Hallway).

Example #1 - CYR-AP005-RM3122 (AP #5 located in room 3122)

Example #2 - CYR-AP110-RM3122HW (AP #110 located in the Hallway outside of RM3122)

Wireless Discussion Points Continued:Derly Buentello and Larry Barrios met with Sherma Duck, principal, to discuss sponsored wireless at Anthony

MS. They also talked about during and after hours access.

• Anna Senties , Elizabeth Montes, and Thomas Hollister continue to service iSupport wireless service

requests.

• Wireless equipment continues to arrive at Bleyl Middle School

• Roland Padilla to signing off on equipment that is

being delivered at Layer3 facilities.

As the core infrastructure for the network is entering the

execution phase of the project, much coordination will

be required between both scheduled tasks and vendors.

Oscar Villar and the ECN Team will gather data and

assist with the coordination of the following vendors and

identified activities:

Vendor Coordination -

• Define Fortinet Installation Requirements

• Define BlueCat Installation Requirements

• Define Cisco Core Routing Requirements

Supporting Activites -

• UPS Installation Schedule

• Document Fiber to Portables

• Determine Strategy at Berry HUB

• Procedure for Building Modifications at Campuses

Frankie Jackson and Paula Ross worked with Polly Gifford (EPS) and David Caddle (Phonoscope) to finalize

two contracts with Phonoscope: 1) Wavelength contract to connect the ISC and CyrusOne data centers, and 2)

Addendum to the current Phonoscope contract to connect the hub site locations to both the ISC and CyrusOne

data centers. Both contracts will be presented to Stuart Snow for signature on April 14, 2015.

Cabling Project updates:

The cabling project is more then just running cable. The project

has been moving along, decisions are being made daily to help

move the project forward. The team has been making

decisions like on what cable boxes to add to buildings, what

Cisco switch will be used in portables, getting answers to

questions after a walkthrough, and other decisions and even

coordinating with outside vendors to drill holes at Hamilton MS

(4 week ordeal). All this to standardize the deployment for all

campuses. Increased project management in the scheduling of

these cabling activities is a top priority.

Frankie Jackson corresponded

throughout the week with Daniel

Grosz and Dillon Brady, CFISD

Facilities and Planning, and with

Steve Aloway (VLK Architects), to

finalize a bidding schedule for

electrical and air conditioning

upgrades at the hub site locations

and secondary campuses. A bidding

schedule is now proposed for:

The Network Management and Operations (NMO) virtualization

team is near the finish of the “Information Gathering” phase. The

Application Inventory & Priority workbook will continue to be

updated through the next phase. Next steps involve meeting with

the application owners to verify SLA, backup, priority, and

computing specifics. The virtualized design, product selection, and

The contract with CyrusOne has been executed and CFISD now has a Tier 4 data

center facility as a co-location. The kick-off meeting is scheduled for Thursday,

April 16th at 1:00 PM. Stephanie Leyva, our CyrusOne account manager, will be a

lead in this meeting. This project will be a joint effort of ECN and NMO, working

together to build a core piece of our redundant network access and a secured,

protected location for our priority applications.

Polly Gifford of EPS requested rack elevations of the major partners. Layer3’s rack

elevation submittal may be viewed here.

Frankie Jackson worked Polly Gifford (EPS), and Natasha Pratt ( AT&T) to prepare contracts and a Total

Cost of Ownership (TCO) presentation. Contracts were submitted to CFISD for review on April 9, 2015.

Frankie is planning to meet with Natasha Pratt to review all details and aspects of the final cost proposal.

Katie Hernandez and Roland Padilla worked with Frankie on the presentation, adding graphics and

detailed explanations about the advantages of a VoIP solution. Cisco currently has the presentation and is

Leonard Chance, CFISD Technology

Assets Manager, compiled and verified the

“replacement data” for the instructional

campuses. Leonard is making site visits

to help the campus technicians validated

the inventories to ensure accuracy. The

data that is gathered will be analyzed and

then orders can be placed.

For the administrative campuses, the

technology service technicians have

surveyed those sites to verify inventories.

Leonard and Ashely have stared scanning

the equipment at ISC and ISC west. The

data will be reviewed and added to the

items that have been compiled from the
