Layer3 began the delivery of Wireless access points (APs). Due to the significant
number of APs, the challenge was to locate a facility that could house the number of
APs ordered. Pictured below is a subset of the APs ordered that will be stored at Bleyl
Data Center, with the majority of APs stored at Layer3's warehouse.
Wireless Discussion PointsDense distribution of wireless access points (APs) is scheduled to begin at the high schools this month.
Prior to the initiation of this step, a naming scheme for the APs must be finalized. Below is the naming
convention being considered:
• Unique 3-letter campus variable, AP numbered identifier, and Room Number (RM) or unique location
identifier (i.e. HW…..abbreviation for Hallway).
Example #1 - CYR-AP005-RM3122 (AP #5 located in room 3122)
Example #2 - CYR-AP110-RM3122HW (AP #110 located in the Hallway outside of RM3122)
• Also under review is the Cable Identification for each AP.

Pictured above is the combined effort between CFISD, Presidio, and M&S Technology
defining the initial steps required. The first step outlined is to eliminate our current
production single point of failure by installing a second Fortinet firewall at ISC. The
production firewall will be updated with the most current release of firmware and the new
firewall will then be installed.

The Network Management Operations (NMO) team will soon move
to the next phase of the storage area network (SAN) project.
Vendor discussions have included topics about replication and
backup. The effort is now concentrated on determining space
requirements for applications and data shares currently and for
future growth. Further assessment tools are scheduled to be run
this week. The storage design, product selection, and possible
RFP process are anticipated to start in April.

and equipment cutsheets have been sent to Facilities for review. After the review approval, an order will be
sent to CenterPoint for the new dedicated service entrance. Submitted drawings may be viewed through the
following links: power, electrical, and HVAC. The next data center construction meeting is
scheduled for April 8th.
A final design meeting with AT&T was held on Wednesday,
April 1, 2015. Attendees from AT&T, Education Partners
Solution (EPS), Cisco, iSphere, along with the Technology
Services team met to review the network design and cost
proposal. AT&T is finalizing contracts and a Total Cost of
Ownership (TCO) presentation. The contracts will be
submitted to CFISD the week of April 6, 2015, in time to file
for 2015-2015 e-rate reimbursements.

The proposal includes:
• Total Quantity of users 6380
• Cisco Call Center Express with 10 Agents
• Licenses - Essential, Basic and Enhanced
• SRST Routers for 101 locations for E911
and DR/Survivability
• WAN Bandwidth – 2 locations with 30Mbps
and Police Dept. 1.5Mbps
• IPFlex SIP trunk 20Mbps with 310
Concurrent Calls.
• 36 Month term with all equipment being
purchase and owned by CFISD
Cost savings:
• With this solution, 94% (estimate) of the current cost on
local voice services would be replaced. (327 Alarm and
45 Elevator lines are currently in place from total of 6380
Plexar lines)
• 100% of the long distance service as well as voicemail
services cost will be eliminated. AT&T SIP Trunking offer
provides 300 Min. of free long distance per concurrent call
per month.
• The solution is based on 310 Concurrent calls for the
district, which would give CFISD a total of 93,000 min in
free domestic long calling.
Currently Cypress-Fairbanks ISD utilizes on average
1500 Domestic Long Distance Minutes/month

Leonard Chance, CFISD Technology
Assets Manager, compiled and verified the
“replacement data” for the instructional
campuses. Leonard has started this week
to make site visits to help the campus
technicians validated the inventories to
ensure accuracy, so an order can be
placed. This week he went to Cy Fair high
school, Cy Ranch high school, Hamiltion
middle school, and Hopper middle school.
For the administrative campuses, the
technology service technicians have
surveyed those sites to verify inventories.
The data will be reviewed and added to
