OurGymSkillsprogramisbasedonGymnasticsforAllwhichisanintroductionforallagestothesportofgymnastics.Itconcentratesonthe6DMPs(DominantMovementPatterns)ofSprings,Landings,Statics,Handheldapparatus,SwingsandRotations.Eachtermfocussesonaspectsofeachofthesethroughtheuseoftrampolines,rings,bars,beams,vault,ribbons,balls,ropesandfloor.Attimestheexercisesaredonetomusic.

Becausethisprogramisintroductory,andagebasedratherthanskillsbased,assessmentsarenolongerformallycarriedout.Rather,eachchild’sabilitiesaredeterminedconstantly,andassessmentsareavailableforparentsatanytime.Ourprogramoffersafunweekattheendofeachtermwheregymnastscantryoutalltheirskillsonacircuitdesignedfor

theirlevel.Theopportunitytobranchoutintoaspecialisedgymsportexistsshouldthechildhavefoundaloveforaparticularapparatusorstyleofgymnastics.However,somechildrenjustlovethefunaspectwhilstdevelopingbasicskillsusefulinallaspectsoflifeandsports.

WhatyouneedforclassWhencomingtogymnastics,thereareafewthingsyouneedtobring.Firstly,ensureyouwearappropriateclothingtoclass.LeotardsorTshirtswithshortsorbikepantsistheidealoutfitforworkinghard.Nojewelry,jeans,schooluniformsorbaggyclothing.Duringcoldertimes,warmclothingsuchasjumpersandtrackpantscanbewornaslongastheyareremovedwhenwarm.Weaskgymnaststodressthiswaysothatbodyshapeandtensioncanbeproperlyassessedduringtraining.Secondly,ensurethatyoubringawaterbottlecontainingonlywatertoeveryclass.Itisreallyimportanttostayhydratedwhilsttraining.TheClubsellsbottlesofwaterfor$1.00.Thirdly,bringapairofsockssothatyoucanjumpofthedoubleminitrampolinesifthatisincludedontheday.TheClubalsosellssocksfor$1.00apair.Lastly,donotbringanyfoodorchewinggumtogymnastics.Councilregulationsdonotallowfoodinthehallatanytime,anditisdangeroustobeeatingwhiletraining.
