YU-JUNG, CHEN/ DESIGN OXIDATION
Oxidation has many dierent usages; dierent circumstances
will have dierent results; sometimes it benets the object, but
sometimes it damages the object. I think designing is very much
like oxidation. It can benet us or it can bring upon potential
harm, depending on the designer’s perspectives and practices.
/ DESIGN OXIDATION
Design is like chemical reactions, although they are creative and
innovative, but they have structures, and every element aects
the result. As a designer, you need to know every element and
every step of the process, to create shocking yet wonderful
outcome.

Obstructive elements can be transformed into part
of the whole by using light and shadows, which manifest
uniquely on different shapes, angles, and mediums.
THE interpretation of light and shadows can lead to
beauty in objects.
“Shadows Up” use photo catalyst to entice the insect
then kill them. The old bug zappers create scaring
explosions upon catching a fly. “Shadows Up” causes
a sudden change of lighting in the environment,
signaling the catch of the insect. The burst of light,

Venus’s-flytrap relaxing the grip of its leaves after

Four sharp swords attracting and killing mosquitoes :
1. The moist carban dioxide: it imitates the breath of
human beings and stimulates mosquitoes to fly
close to the zapper.
2. 365nm Technology: Mosquitoes prefer the UV-light
with 365nm wave length.
3. Biological Information Technology (optional): specially
made ointment releases attractive information that
makes mosquitoes fly to it.
4. Sucking Fan: It generates the airflow and controls the
mosquitoes within it. The mosquitoes are sucked into
a net by the strong swirled wind and dehydrated to die.

Brand Research - Vivienne Westwood
The Pirate Collection of 1981 was Westwood
and McLaren’s first catwalk show. This
offered a romantic look which burst onto the
London fashion scene and ensured this
collection’s place in history.
e early years 1981-1987 e Pagan years 1988 – 1992
During this period Vivienne’s heros changed
from punks and ragamuffins to ‘Tatler’ girls
wearing clothes that parodied the upper
class. A chance encounter inspired one of
her most important and influential collections,
the Harris Tweed collection of
Autumn/Winter 1987.
Anglomania 1993 – 1999
Vivienne believes that fashion is a combination
and exchange of ideas between France and
England; “On the English side we have tailoring
and an easy charm, on the French side that solidity
of design and proportion that comes from never
being satisfied because somethingcan always be
done to make it better, more refined.”
Exploration 2000 – present
Beginning to put historicism to one side,
Westwood returned to a more asexual cut,
exploring the natural dynamic of the fabric
by treating it like a living mass.
