The Lord’s Day

Welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus! If you are a guest with us, please be sure to sign our Registry when it is passedbefore the service. Children are welcome in our worship. We have a nursery available for children 3 and under. Children4 to 6 years of age may be dismissed to Godly Play prior to the sermon. Thank you for joining us today and may the Lordrichly bless you.

Song of Assembly1

When I Think About the Lord HueyWhen I think about the Lord, how He saved me, how He raised me,

How He filled me, with the Holy Ghost. How He healed me, to the uttermost.

When I think about the Lord, How He picked me upAnd turned me around, how He placed my feet on solid ground

It makes me wanna shout, Hallelujah, thank you JESUS,LORD, your worthy, of all the glory, and all the honor,

and all the praise...It makes me wanna shout!

Welcome and Preparation for WorshipIf Christ had come and told us that the way of salvation was to consider a great, noble, and wonderful teaching and thento set out and do it, why, we would have liked it. Thoughts of imitating Christ always please mankind, because they flatterus. They tell us that if we only use our wills we can do almost anything. . . . The world today in its state of trouble is veryready to listen to sermons that tell it somehow or another about the application of Christian principles. No one is annoyedat them. “What wonderful thoughts,” people say. “What a wonderful conception.” But the message of the Gospel is thatthe world is as it is because you are as you are. You are in trouble and confusion because you are not honoring God; becauseyou are rebelling against Him; because of your self-will, your arrogance, and your pride. “You are reaping,” says the Gospel,“what you have sown.” We all dislike that, and yet it is always the message of Christ—He called upon men and women torepent, to acknowledge their sin with shame and to turn back to God in Him, but the message of repentance always hasbeen and still is a cause of offense. ~ Martin Lloyd Jones

The first three words of the Gospel are “guilt,” “want,” and “substitution.” ~ Martin Luther

The Lord Gives Us His PresenceResponsive Call to Worship2 Call to Worship—Isaiah 52:1-2, 7, 9, 10Pastor: Awake, awake, put on your strength, O sons and daughters of Zion!People: We will shake off the dust and arise; we will loose our bonds!1 All songs used by permission or covered under CCLI license # 391165.2 We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with his invitation and command to us to gather in His name.

Pastor: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good newsof happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”People: Break forth together into singing, for the Lord has comforted His people; He has redeemed His covenantchildren.Pastor: The LORD has bared His holy arm before the eyes of all the nations. All: And all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God!

Prayer of Adoration & Praise Based on Psalm 8

Hymn of Praise

Come, Christians, Join to Sing BatemanCome, Christians join to sing, Alleluia! Amen!

Loud praise to Christ our King; Alleluia! Amen!Let all, with heart and voice, before His throne rejoice;

Praise is His gracious choice, Alleluia! Amen!

Come, lift your hearts on high, Alleluia! Amen!Let praises fill the sky; Alleluia! Amen!

He is our Guide and Friend; to us He’ll condescend; His love shall never end, Alleluia! Amen!

Praise yet our Christ again, Alleluia! Amen!Life shall not end the strain; Alleluia! Amen!

On heaven’s blissful shore, His goodness we’ll adore,Singing forevermore, Alleluia! Amen!

The Reading of the Word: When the Fullness of Time Had Come Galatians 4:4-7But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those whowere under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of hisSon into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

The Lord Gives Us His GraceConfession of SinOur Father in heaven, we thank you that you have loved us, and united us to Jesus Christ, and called us to be saints. But here in your light we also behold the darkness of our sin. We confess to you our self-righteousness, ourhypocrisy, and our insincerity. We have trusted in our morality, and in our privileges, rather than trusting only inChrist. We have condemned others for doing what we allow ourselves to do. We have presumed upon your kindness, which is meant to lead us to repentance. We have not lived according to the truth. We have lived for the approval ofothers, rather than the approval of God. In what we have done, and in what we have left undone, we have sinnedagainst you. God, have mercy on us! We do not hide our sins, but confess them to you. Forgive us, and continue inus the work that you have begun. Enable us to desire and to do what is pleasing in your sight. ...Silent & PersonalizedConfession of Sin... Amen!

The Power of God for Salvation Romans 1:16-17I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and alsoto the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live byfaith.”

Worship with Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs

The Gospel Is True HamptonWe have a hope that is living and love that never will end.We have a God who’s forgiven us while we were yet in sin.

We have a grace that’s amazing; a free gift to know Him by faith,To live for His praise and long for the day, when we see Him face to face.

Thank you, Jesus, Oh how we worship You.Thank You, Jesus. Hallelujah, the gospel is true.

Hallelujah, the gospel is true.

We have been crucified with Him, buried and risen to life. Now justified, soon glorified, we shall be made like Christ.

We Respond Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 1Pastor: What is your only comfort in life and in death?People: That I am not my own, but belong body and soul, in life and in death to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

He has fully paid for all my sins with His precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He alsowatches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven: in fact, all things must work together for my salvation.

Because I belong to Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willingand ready from now on to live for Him.

3 4, 5, & 6 year-old children may be dismissed before the sermon to Godly Play in room 173.4

The Lord Gives Us His SacramentThe Sacrament of the Lord’s SupperCommunion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all committedfollowers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims thegospel, who are at peace with God and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.

Before the Throne of God Above Bancroft & CookBefore the throne of God above,

I have a strong, a perfect plea,A great High Priest whose name is “Love,”

Who ever lives and pleads for me.My name is graven on His hands,My name is written on His heart;

I know that while in heav’n He standsNo tongue can bid me thence depart. No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair,And tells me of the guilt within,

Upward I look and see Him thereWho made an end to all my sin.Because the sinless Savior died,My sinful soul is counted free; For God, the Just, is satisfied

To look on him and pardon me.To look on him and pardon me.

Behold him there! The risen Lamb,My perfect, spotless Righteousness,

The great unchangeable I AM,The King of glory and of grace! One with Himself I cannot die,

My soul is purchased by His blood; My life is hid with Christ on high,

With Christ, my Savior and my God.With Christ, my Savior and my God.

The Lord Gives Us His BlessingBenediction4 Philippians 1:6, 12-13I am sure of this my beloved: He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Therefore, work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work forHis good pleasure. Amen.

How Great Is Our God Tomlin/Cash/ReevesHow great is our God

Sing with meHow great is our God

And all will see how greatHow great is our God

4 Just as God called us into His presence at the beginning, so now He commands His blessing upon us as we depart. We look up and extend our handsin a posture of thanksgiving as we receive this great gift. Our final response to God’s assurance of His peace and presence upon those who are in Christis a chorus of joyful song.

Adult Christian Education Classes9:30AM

“A Long Obedience in the Same Direction”A study of Eugene Peterson’s book looking at the Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-134). These are the particular songs thatthe Hebrew pilgrims would sing on their way up to worship in Jerusalem, and they have much to teach us about worship, service, joy, work, happiness, humility, community and blessing. Room 167a, (down the hall from the church office).

“The Righteous Shall Live By Faith”A study of R. C. Sproul’s book looking at the book of Romans. The book of Romans has been called “Paul’s fullest, grandest, most comprehensive statement of the gospel,” and it’s just as vital for the church today as on the day it waswritten. Room 158a, (right off the sanctuary).

Sedona Class for Young AdultsThe Young Adult Class is studying the book of John, using an excellent study guide (very understandable and applicable)by Frank Barker. The book of John was “written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and thatby believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). Room 168a — the “waterfall room,” off the back hallway, whichcan be accessed from the hallway across from the church office.
