Weights and dimensions

The combined length and circumference1) is calculated as follows: Circumference + parcel length

Minimum dimensions Standard dimensions2) Maximum dimensions

Weight from 50 g to 31.5 kg over 31.5 kg - max. 35 kg

Length from 14.8 cm to 1.75 m over 1.75 m - max. 2.20 m

Combined length and circumfer-ence1)

up to 3.00 m over 3.20 m - max. 4.00 m

Thickness from 1 cm

Format from A6 (14.8 cm x 10.5 cm)

Comments If your parcel meets one of the criteria listed above, DPD can transport it.

Up to these limits, your parcel will be shipped as a Standard Parcel.

If your parcel reaches one of these dimensions, it counts as a Maxi Par-cel. For the Maxi Supplement a fee is charged in addition to the parcel price.

1) The combined length and circumference formula: 2 x height + 2 x width + longest side 2) Special conditions apply for international shipping: DPD CLASSIC INTERNATIONAL and DPD EXPRESS INTERNATIONAL Parcels must comply with the standard dimensions.

Non-Conveyable

Non-Conveyable Packages (NC) are packages which fall within DPD’s standard dimensions but cannot be processed by the automated systems due to their packaging or irregular shape. They must be sorted individually by hand, a time-con-suming process, to ensure that they arrive safely. For this reason, a supplement is payable for each NC package. Examples of such items are shown below (non-exclusive list).

Bundled parcels What counts as a bundled parcel? A bundled parcel consists of more than one parcel. If two parcels are fastened together with string or adhesive tape, and are labelled and stamped as one parcel, this becomes a bundled parcel. DPD will only transport bundled parcels which consist of two identical parcels, fastened together with plastic tape. The parcel label must be on one of the parcels and the recipient's address must be on the other.

All other kinds of bundled parcels, where two or more parcels are bundled together and marked with only one parcel label will not be carried by DPD. The DPD driver will not pick up such consignments from you.

Pack well to ensure safe arrival (1/2)

Every parcel is exposed to stresses – such as impacts, vibration or pressure – during transport. Safe and dam-age-free shipping can only be guaranteed with correctly selected packaging. For the packaging to fulfil its protective function, the external packaging, the goods and the internal packaging must work together to form a single unit.

Internal packaging

The internal packaging cushions the product and holds it in place. It maintains a distance between the individual contents and the external packaging. The cushioning cannot be replaced by a high-quality shipping box.

The more sensitive the product is, the greater the importance of good internal packaging. Use soft

cushioning materials for light parts and harder cushioning for heavy goods. Examples of suitable cushioning materials are bubble wrap, rolled corrugated cardboard or mechani-

cally crushed kraft paper. For very delicate goods such as glass, we recommend that you use five or six layers of bubble wrap. Crumpled newspaper should only be used as a filler material for less sensitive products.

Packaging chips tend to "flow" under static pressure. As a result, voids can form inside the parcel so

that the contents are no longer fixed in place. It is therefore helpful to distribute the chips by shaking after the initial filling. You can then fill any voids by adding chips up to the top of the carton.

Breakable and pressure-sensitive materials should never come into direct contact with external packag-

ing or other items of the contents. Fragile items such as glass, ceramics or electronic components re-quire especially careful packaging. Ideally the distance between the product and its packaging should be at least 5 cm.

If several products are packaged together, separating elements should be used so that all the items

contained are prevented from shifting.

External packaging When choosing a shipping box, it is important to ensure it is the correct size (for contents plus cushioning) and sufficiently rigid.

The greater the weight, size and sensitivity to pressure and impact of your goods, the greater the rigid-ity of the external packaging.

The original packaging/sales packaging is not necessarily suitable for parcel shipping. Additional cush-

ioning between the original packaging and the shipping packaging is usually required. In addition, the shipping label will damage the original packaging.

Pack well to ensure safe arrival (2/2)

External packaging (continued)

Corrugated cardboard boxes are particularly suitable. Select the size of packaging to suit the contents. Cardboard boxes that are underfilled are easily crushed and break open, overfilled boxes often burst open.

If you are thinking of reusing old packaging, bear in mind that its rigidity may be considerably de-

creased. You should therefore check the packaging carefully for tears, signs of crushing, dents or perfo-rations. Do not use damaged packaging. Remove old stickers and address labels.

Sealing the package securely

The larger or heavier the consignment is, the stronger the sealing material should be. Ensure it is sealed well when packaging your parcel. It serves both as protection during transport and as evidence of authenticity.

Expert tip The ideal method for sealing a package with parcel tape is to make a double T on the top and bottom of the package. This seals the parcel well and also protects the edges.

.

Redbox is a strong, impact-resistant and waterproof re-usable packaging which provides optimal protection for your consignment. It allows you to avoid claims for dam-age and your customer avoids the cost of disposal. Want to get started right away? Contact your customer advisor for more information.

Address your parcel correctly to ensure it arrives safely

Address quality

The quality of the address increases deliverability. This means that you avoid returns and your goods reach the recipient quickly and safely.

No PO box addresses

DPD always delivers your parcels to the recipient against signature. For this reason, we cannot deliver to PO box addresses.

Telephone/mobile number

When sending national and international Express parcels it is essential to give the name and telephone/mobile num-ber of the recipient. In this way, we can guarantee a punc-tual delivery. This also applies to deliveries of packages to building sites.

International shipping

For export packages, always use the two-letter ISO country code in addition to the postcode. As the following example shows, there are many identical postcodes, par-ticularly in Austria and Switzerland. AT-1025 Vienna ≠ CH-1025 St-Sulpice

Shipping labels for problem-free dispatch (1/4)

The types of parcel label The different parcel labels with barcode lie at the heart of shipping. The barcode enables us to identify your parcel at all times. It is scanned at all nodal points in the shipping process. This allows your package to be tracked seamlessly on its way to the recipient (read more about this on page 18). If your stock of parcel labels is getting low, please reorder in good time at dpd.ch Shipping information Shipping materials Order shipping materials.

Print your own parcel labels

As a DPD customer, you can print your own parcel la-bels. To do this you can use your own parcel label printing program, our printing program DELISprint or MyDPD Pro. Do you rely on your own programming and on your own software for creating packages? No problem! We're happy to support you. Our IT experts are always available to an-swer all your questions about creating parcel labels and exchanging data on line. Do you want to know more about printing your own parcel labels? Simply send us an email at [email protected].

The Mini parcel label

If no IT infrastructure is available at the place of dispatch, the Mini parcel label is the alternative solution. Stick this to your parcel in addition to the address label. Please note that we make an additional charge for pack-ages with the Mini parcel label.

Page 10: DPD Shipping Guide...Use soft cushioning materials for light parts and harder cushioning for heavy goods. Examples of suitable cushioning materials are bubble wrap, rolled corrugated

DPD Shipping Guide Page 10 / 21

Shipping labels for problem-free dispatch (2/4) The Maxi parcel label

The Maxi parcel label is also suitable for senders without IT infrastructure on site. It is a combination of a parcel label and an address label. The details of the sender and the recipient can be printed di-rectly onto this parcel label. Please note that we make an additional charge for packages with the Maxi parcel label.

Cash-on-delivery parcel label

For cash-on-delivery shipping, use the cash-on-delivery parcel label. The cash-on-delivery fee always applies per pack-age/parcel label. The fees for several packages must not be combined on one cash-on-delivery par-cel label. The maximum cash-on-delivery fee is CHF 3,500 and must be rounded to the nearest five centimes. The cash-on-delivery fee must not ex-ceed the value of the transported goods plus transport costs. Don't forget to fill in the purpose on the parcel la-bel. Otherwise the payment transaction will be made without a reference (posting text) and your accounts department will not be able to assign the cash-on-delivery fee to a debtor. Please ensure that you note the telephone/mobile number of the recipient on the parcel label.

Labelling your parcel

To ensure that we take account of all shipping la-bels during registration (scanning), please attach the address label, parcel label and service label next to each other

Shipping labels for problem-free dispatch (3/4)

Classic service labelling The easiest way of shipping your parcels is to use MyDPD Pro and DELISprint. Customers without DPD online services must label their DPD CLASSIC parcels with the address and parcel label.

Express service labelling DPD EXPRESS labelling MyDPD Pro and DELISprint are also the easiest way of sending Express service parcels. If you use Mini or Maxi parcel labels, you must also use the DPD ser-vice label in addition to the parcel label for DPD EX-PRESS. On the DPD service label tick the service you re-quire.

For express shipping abroad, if you use Mini or Maxi parcel labels you must also complete the DPD Ex-press label and stick it to the parcel in addition to the parcel label. Here too it is even easier with MyDPD Pro and DELISprint, which generate a ready-made combined DPD EXPRESS parcel label. The DPD EXPRESS label must contain the following information: Customs value and currency in CHF, EURO, US dollars or national currency of the country of destination.

DPD service label DPD Express label

Do you want a receipt? Ask the driver to confirm handover on the carbon copy of the DPD label.

The red and white DPD parcel tape DPD EXPRESS parcels must be marked with the red and white DPD parcel tape both lengthwise and cross-wise. The parcels can thus be recognised immediately during processing and expedited accordingly. We can provide you with the parcel tape. If necessary, you can also order this at www.dpd.ch.

Shipping labels for problem-free dispatch (4/4)

Exchange service labelling The exchange service is an option where we exchange one parcel for another or contents for contents on deliv-ery. For this to work, the parcels must be specially labelled. CLASSIC parcels must be marked with the Exchange service label for the outward shipping:

EXPRESS parcels must be marked with the parcel label, DPD service label and the Exchange service label for outward shipping:

Preparing for return shipping (re-labelling)

To provide the DPD driver with a parcel label for the return shipment in the case of an exchange, follow these steps:

Exchanging one parcel for another If the package is to be exchanged for another package on delivery, the re-label must be attached to the outside of the parcel (e.g. in a document pouch).

Exchanging contents for contents If the contents of the parcel are to be exchanged on delivery, the re-label must be enclosed with the contents.

Export invoices made easy: the online form For creating export invoices, DPD offers you an online form at www.dpd.ch Shipping information Inter-national shipping Customs regulations Export invoice. Simply complete the form and print it in tripli-cate. Place the export papers in the International document pouch and attach this to the outside of the par-cel. Let us do the rest!

International shipping to more than 230 countries (2/2)

How to make your parcel fit to be sent abroad. With DPD, sending parcels to Europe and worldwide is very simple:

Are the export papers in the language of the destination country or in English? Is the enclosed export invoice filled in completely and presented in three signed copies?

Are the export papers in the International document pouch and is this attached to the parcel?

As a DPD customer, you can order the International document pouch at www.dpd.ch Shipping infor-mation Shipping materials Order shipping materials or purchase it from us. Place the export papers in the International document pouch and seal it. This ensures that the export papers are always with the package.

If you are using a consignment list, simply enter the packages for international shipping on the consignment list (see page 14) with the other packages. The current laws, rules and regulations for cross-border shipping of documents and goods differ from coun-try to country. Country-specific restrictions (shipping, destination country and any transit countries) must be complied with prior to shipping. The sender is responsible for ensuring that clarifications are made and regula-tions are complied with. Our import/export competence centre is at your disposal for questions about worldwide shipping. Our specialists can be contacted by telephone on +41 (0)61 816 55 31. Please also note the latest information on our website www.dpd.ch

If you are using your own export papers, please attach a small por-

tion of the barcode label to the export invoice. This ensures that the papers can be matched to your package again after the customs formalities.

Export papers should never be given to the driver, they should al-ways be attached to the package.

Page 15: DPD Shipping Guide...Use soft cushioning materials for light parts and harder cushioning for heavy goods. Examples of suitable cushioning materials are bubble wrap, rolled corrugated

DPD Shipping Guide Page 15 / 21

The right consignment list for every product (1/2) The consignment list is your proof of handover for the packages. Completing a consignment list is compulsory for cash-on-delivery packages, but optional for all other packages. If you do not use the consignment list (no proof of handover), liability for the packages transfers to DPD only when the packages are scanned in at the depot. With our Express service the consignment list serves as proof of handover and for the notification of the packages. The carbon copy of the DPD service label can also be used instead of the consignment list as proof of handover. If you use our online services (MyDPD Pro, DELISprint), the consignment lists will be generated automatically, so you only need to print them out.

In the "parcel label number" column, stick a small part of the barcode label. Add the necessary infor-mation in the following columns, depending on the consignment list used.

The consignment list is only valid if it contains the date and time of collection and is signed by the DPD driver! Keep the original and give a copy to the driver.

The right consignment list for every product (2/2)

If you are sending a national DPD CLASSIC or DPD EXPRESS parcel by cash-on-delivery, you will need to complete a cash-on-delivery consignment list instead of the Classic or Express service consignment list. In the case of an EXPRESS parcel, please write "Express" * next to this parcel on the consignment list.

Enter the cash-on-delivery amount in CHF (max. CHF 3,500) in the "amount" column. Add the pur-pose in the column to the right of this (max. 14 characters). This is very important for identifying your incoming payments (posting text on the pay-ment order)!

The information you fill in will be transferred by us to an EDP system. To avoid delays in shipping and pay-ment, it is essential that you complete the consignment list legibly.

You can list up to three packages per recipient.
