WHAT IS A DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER?To reduce the amount of pollutants created by diesel engines, the federal government has mandated that Tier 4 engines be installed on all new construction equipment sold in the U.S. As part of the Tier 4 emissions reduction systems on these machines, diesel engines have been fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) in the exhaust pipe to capture soot particles. A matrix of materials that make up the DPF traps the particulates flowing out the exhaust pipe, rendering the exhaust clean.

WHAT SERVICE IS NEEDED FOR A DPF?When your machine’s engine hits a pre-determined hour mark (varies from model to model), you will need to either replace or clean (de-ash) the machine’s DPF. Cleaning the DPF removes unburned lube oil, ash and other hazardous waste that has accumulated inside the DPF unit. These by-products are classified as hazardous wastes and must be handled and disposed of in a regulated, safe and controlled environment.

HOW CAN YANCEY HELP ME WITH THIS SERVICE? Yancey Bros. Co. can either replace or clean the DPF in your machine. The cost of replacing the DPF varies based on the machine model, while the expenses involved in cleaning the DPF usually run around 50% the price of replacement with a reman DPF. The choice of replacement or cleaning is up to you.
