Please complete the daily learning tasks for reading, writing and maths which are highlighted grey. Choose one task in each grey box to complete per day. Schedule your week so that you can complete the other tasks at times which suit your routine. Don’t forget how important break times, outside play and exercise are. See the highlighted text for the activities teachers will give feedback about.

Daily Reading This week we are looking at non-fiction texts. There are a variety of non-fiction texts on Sunshine Online with excellent follow up activities. Start at Learning Space 1 and choose a non-fiction text to read. If you’ve been unsuccessful on the site, have another go.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u9wLcW_oSQuw_GqrDWqizv19jOw954Z3/view?usp=sharing Task 1: Watch Mrs Elliot’s video and talk about 3 things you have learnt. Task 2:Draw a front cover of a non-fiction text and discuss the purpose of non-fiction texts: they give us information. Task 3: Draw or write about something you’ve learned in a non-fiction text. Send a photo of this work to your teacher for feedback. Task 4: Go on a scavenger hunt to find different non-fiction texts- this might even be junk-mail or a newspaper! Task 5: Have a go at creating an information text about an animal. You could write about Kangaroos after watching Mrs Elliot’s link or dogs: Dogs have four legs. They can run. Inquiry Our Big Idea for inquiry is ‘Every Family in our community is unique.’

● Look at The World’s Family https://safeYouTube.net/w/XZgB

● This week we are learning about the different celebrations our family is involved in (Easter, Christmas, birthdays, Diwali , weddings, Chinese New Year)

● Think about the ways your family celebrate these events eg. clothing worn, special words used (eg. Merry Christmas), food eaten and special decorations.

Activity Ideas: ● Create a poster sharing the ways you celebrate

these events. ● Watch Play School Episode Kiya’s Excellent

eBirthday https://iview.abc.net.au/show/play-school-kiya-s-excellent-ebirthday

● Watch Celebrations Around the World clip https://safeYouTube.net/w/YnhB

● Help your family to prepare food that you might eat at a family celebration

● Spend time making decorations for these celebrations eg. party hats for a birthday party.

Mindfulness Continue practising mindfulness using the Smiling mind website OR Create a mindful jar by filling a clear jar with water and glitter. Have children take the jar and shake it so the glitter floats around. Talk about how our mind can feel busy and clouded when we are moving too fast in our lives. Just like the glitter in the jar. Let the jar sit and settle and observe what stillness does to the glitter. This is the same as in our minds. Practise stillness and breathing.

Writing This week we want you to use words you know in your writing. If you don’t know how to write a word, have a go at sounding it out. Write all the sounds you hear. Alphabet Chart https://drive.google.com/file/d/10x3s1bEPCuqrNQsRgDGw4M9HzE1qHKlF/view?usp=sharing

RAISE - Personal Learning This week we are asking you to think about the way you and others in your family have shown the school value of Resilience. Resilience is the ability to cope when things go wrong. Think about what resilience might look like and sound like at home. Listen to: It’s Okay to Make Mistakes https://drive.google.com/file/d/14NqZT7k6iv-id9EEabdyugu8GukOiCsE/view?usp=sharing

Orang Utan Orangutans live in the forests of Indonesia on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. They are very clever animals. Orangutans can

use objects from nature to help them reach their food to eat. This animal often eats fruit as well as plants and sometimes insects and flowers (bunga-bunga). They are a part of the ape family and are usually heavier than monkeys.

Have you seen an orangutan at the zoo? If you have, what was this amazing creature doing? Watch this clip to see the orangutan and parts of the fascinating Indonesian culture.

https://safeYouTube.net/w/AORB Illustrate a picture of an orangutan in a tree (Orang utan di pohon).

Write this heading at the top of your page Orang utan di pohon.

To say “Happy birthday” in Indonesian the phrase is “Selamat hari ulang tahun”.

Listen to the children singing ‘Happy Birthday’ in Indonesian.

Performing Arts

“Practising Percussion, Beats and Rhythm”

We are learning to: Improvise with voices and available sources to identify the difference between beat and rhythm.

Words we need to know: Beat- is the steady pulse that you feel in the tune, like a clock’s tick. It’s the beat you’d naturally clap along to, or tap your foot to. Rhythm- is the actual sound or time value of the notes, which the song would also be the same as the words. Recycled materials- Things that have already been used in some way, such as containers, tins, and boxes. Rhythm and Beat: Make a percussion instrument from recycled materials (if you don’t have things to use, just clap your hands!)

Percussion instruments you could make:

· Maracas by putting rice in a jar, tin or bottle

· A drum with boxes, baking pans or a table top or empty bottle or jar.

· Use spoons on different surfaces.

Play Along: Follow the link to learn the song ‘Apple Tree’ and play along with the BEAT (remember, it doesn’t stop, or get faster or slower!) and

then the RHYTHM (remember it follows the words!) Try playing along to the beat with other songs, Mr Stephens has added another favourite- ‘A

Chicken is not a Fruit’!
